Elmer
Didn't Bush sign all those programs into law? Even if the democratically controlled congress supposedly came up with it, he could have vetoed it. I think that congress was used more as a scapegoat in that situation.
Twotoplace
GWB unfortunately signed it into the law, but the ones who came up with the idea, and the bailout, was the Democratically controlled Congress. "Unfortunately"? From a New York Times article in December '08: "There is no question we did not recognize the severity of the problems," said Al Hubbard, Bush's former chief economic adviser, who left the White House in December 2007. "Had we, we would have attacked them." ********** Looking back, Keith Hennessey, Bush's chief economic adviser, said he and his colleagues had done the best they could "with the information we had at the time." But Hennessey did say he regretted that the administration had not paid more heed to the dangers of easy lending practices. ********** The Bush administration took a lot of pride that home ownership had reached historic highs," former Treasury Secretary John Snow said. "But what we forgot in the process was that it has to be done in the context of people being able to afford their house."

"But what we forgot in the process was that it has to be done in the context of people being able to afford their house." I agree that Bush deserves his share of blame for creating the housing bubble. However, your continued unwillingness to assign any blame for anything to any Democrat is absolutely amazing to me. Christopher Dodd, Barney Frank, and the entire Black Caucus hammered the management of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and other regulators for not making even more risky loans to minority borrowers. The fact that Bush played a part in some horrible economic policies does not mean that Obama's monumental and continuing blunders are a good thing. We have a right to expect our politicians to learn from the mistakes of the past, not to repeat them. Obama seems to have cherry picked the worst policies of past administrations. The man has done nothing well.

Twotoplace
Way too many of your posts are nothing more than general hate-a-thons against our first Hawaiian president. We get it -- you don't like him. I could start a thread on growing tomatoes and your first post would be that Obama is to blame for early leaf blight. In any event, what you and others have failed to realize is that increasing the number of homeowners probably helps, not hurts, the GOP.

I am not concerned about any political party getting credit or blame that is undeserved. Our first Hawaiian president deserves all of the criticism that I mete out, and then some. You call my criticism of the corruption of this administration hate - I call it patriotism. Too many Americans have shed blood securing our freedom and constitutional rights to have the socialists squander the many sacrifices that were made on our behalf. Hatz
Won't happen again. The banks haven't been coerced to make bad home loans to underprivileged deadbeats who can't afford them (a la Janet Reno & Bill Clinton). That financial bubble doesn't exist like it did in 2007-8. I thought I saw where a recent penalty was levied on one of the banks for packaging sub prime loans again.
hidinout
Down right funny the amount of blame the left try's to place on old dumb W -- yes he sucked . But O is worse than W . Far far worse . He's a really weak leader and hasn't helped fix anything .
Mitch Rapp
Expecting Obama to solve a problem is like dispatching a water truck filled with gasoline to extinguish a fire. The best result one can hope for is that the truck has a flat before it reaches the fire.
jericho
Obama has had basically 8 years to solve and fix Bush problems he created. Obama even had the House and Senate the first 4 years and he has done nothing but create more problems. Only jobs safe are at welfare office. bballguy
What short memories we have here? Internationalized free trade, H1B visa program for cheap IT labor, unenforced immigration laws for cheap unskilled labor. Corporate tax exemptions by municipalities. Federally mandated domestic market protection (phama). I'd say business has it pretty good here!
