Is 67 too old to become a dad?

Certainly it is a personal decision but with the average male life expectancy being somewhere in the mid to upper 70s for American men I have mixed feelings.

Crazy. I have a buddy who just had one at 50. So at 68 his child will be graduating high school.

Can't imagine trying to relate to a kid 50 years younger than yourself.

Also those basketball games in the driveway would not be competitive.

It would be a concern for myself as the odds of being around to see the child to adulthood are lower and it also would be harder for me to keep up and actively play with the child.

That's how old he would be when his his child is my age. Although I'm pretty much financially independent from my parents, there is still a heck of a lot that I depend on them for.

 

So I think 67 is way to old to father a child.

My father died at age 36. Life has no guarantees. If it is something the guy wants (though it would definitely not be for me), then I say go for it.

Most children get to spend many years with their parents. I had a very blessed time with my parent but I still felt cheated when I lost my mom at 60 and my dad at 70. This kid does not have very good odds of spending 40 years with his mom and 50 with his dad like I did. And did I mention, that was not enough time with them!
