Anderson also beat Lewis County in the Dan Schwartz Classic to get to the championship game against Johnson Central. For some reason it isn't showing on the KHSAA scoreboard.

There is a difference between "taking it easy" and dialing it back a bit against a much lessor team. You don't have to continue to press when up big, but you also don't have to pull back on a wide open layup should you get a steal either.

I have seen at least twice in this thread posters say high school players want a shot clock. I have coached High School level basketball for 14 years and I have never ever once heard any of my players in that timeframe say anything about a shot clock, nor other players from other teams. Also if you went to a shot clock in high school, it just widens the gap between the Haves and the Have Nots. At least with the option of a grind-it-out, slow down game a team with lesser talent may be able to stick around and possibly beat a better team. Adding a shot-clock pretty much takes that away.

Depends on who's playing to be honest. If Scott Co. is playing CovCath, then I have no problem with it as CovCath isn't "defenceless" and has enough talent to possibly get back in the game. Of course even then there may come a time when the game is in hand, then back off. Now, if Scott Co. is playing Sayre, and Sayre is obviously tremendously overmatched and can't compete, then back it off and pick up half court as continuing to press isn't doing anyone any favors. This happened to me several years ago when I had essentially a freshman team playing varsity and we played an early season game and was completely overmatched. Team was up 50 something late in the game (no running clock then) still pressing with starters in. They got to 100 with about 1:30 left in the game, then pulled starters and quit pressing. Beat us something like 103-42. As we were shaking hands after the game, the head coach had the gall tell me he wasn't trying to run up the score. I just looked at him with cold daggers in my eyes and walked off without saying a word. If I had said something it probably wouldn't have been very nice.

Cool article, but I'm going to go a different way here and say that state title meant just as much to Mayfield and those players than it did to the P'burg kids, which is why Mayfield is Mayfield.

Harrison lead most of the game until Anderson finally took the lead about half way thru the 4th qtr. Alex Carpenter with some big 3's down the stretch and Tyler Rice with 2 big free throws with a few seconds left to put the lead at 3.

She can't wait to get out. Her parents moved there about 20 years ago and she's been back in the area about 3 years helping with her dad's deteriating medical issues until he passed about 3 months ago. According to her it's just gone downhill, and really slid past 2-3 years. I've spent a little time there...I'm not saying its East St Louis but it's definitely no prime destination spot either.

My fiance lives in the Colerain area (not for much longer though). Her son would be starting the school year next year at Colerain if they stayed. Let's just say it's not a great area and is deteriating according to her, so there's that.

Anderson overcomes a slow first quarter and an awful 3rd quarter and finally turns on the jets in the 4th, beating Bethlehem at Bardstown. Tyler Rice with 17 at the half, not sure what he finished with. Another game for Anderson with double digit 3's.

Can't take everything away, if they could AC would be top in the region (or anyone else who could). They did a great job on Miles, that opened up some 3's and WV drained enough of them to maintain a 6-8 point lead for most of the game.

Got behind big and made a comeback against a smaller, quicker team? Yep I can see that leading to a big team fouls difference, scrapping hard trying to get back in the game...easy to figure that would be the case.

3 points, a few rebounds, wasn't many, and I remember a couple of assists. AC limited him very well. Just by being a lanky 6'10 he's always going to be some factor in the lane on defense in many games, if nothing else than making kids think twice about driving the lane, but that was about it. The other big guy did more damage and their wings hit some big 3s that really hurt.

Yep...WV hit their FT'S to seal it.

Essentially a 6-8 point game throughout. Anderson got it to 4 several times but every time they would make a little run WV would hit a big 3 or score off an offensive rebound. They had a good game plan but probably didn't attack the basket quite enough allowing WV to sell out on the 3 later in the game. I think Anderson might have turned some heads tonight.

6 point game at half, 23-29 WV...not as easy so far as some thought.

I'm going to disagree...if you don't have it, size can definitely be an issue in given games.

Umm, I'd say this is an upset and not a "good" loss for Spencer. But, it's early and strange things happen. Maybe FC is a little better than expected?
