GaViking
Congratulations to the Red Colonels. It's always hard for the senior's in any sport when the season ends. Good luck to the CCH senior's and the team on a great year.
Theoldguy
Maybe it's time for a change at Cov Cath or a change in philosophy. It seems the small ball/bunting will produce 20 plus wins every year but in crunch time on a turf field they can't get it done. It certainly seems that year in and year out they have the most talent and deepest talent pool to pick from yet they haven't won the regional in 7 years and have won one regional title in 11 years. If this were football or basketball we would be talking about a new coach or they would already have one. So tell me please, what Ninth Region HS baseball team and their coach, has won a state title since 1997 (15 years)? Now tell me please, how many current Ninth Region HS Baseball coaches have coached a Ninth Region HS baseball team to a State Title? Oh and do you want to tell me who the Ryle, Conner and Cooper Head Baseball coaches played HS baseball for? Yea, get rid of a coach who has over 800 wins, has won countless 34th/35th District titles, Nine Ninth Regional Tournaments, a state title and won 20 or more games for 26 straight years. You could only wish you were as successful at your job, as Coach Krumps is at his! BTW CovCath has won the Ninth Region twice in the last 11 years! mcpapa
Bunting has it's place in baseball. But Cov Cath does it way too much. They give away 4 or 5 outs every game, which is about 20% of the outs in a 7 inning game. And when you get to the regional, playing good teams that can defend the bunt, they just cant score enough runs. Play for the big inning early in the game, manufacture runs when you need them late in the game. Ol' papa has no dog in this fight. But if those bunts are indeed resulting in outs; that's way too many in a 7-inning game. Of course, everyone looks like geniuses when they work. So lets just take the 4 per game as you noted. Now 4 X 39 = 156. So do you now honestly believe CovCath averaged 4 or 5 sac bunts per game? I will wait for you to truthfully answer my question before I tell you the number.
madman
I don't have a dog in this fight but I don't understand why they would bunt in none sacrifice situations knowing that it's turf?
Keystone Colonel
Yes, CCH got beat by a better Dixie team TODAY. That's what makes high school sports great, everyone starts 0-0 today. You can't win every year, but I'll take my 20-30 wins a year behind solid pitching and defense. TOG makes a great point, lots of other successful head coaches, past and present, out of the Krumps camp. And if you start adding up who has won the Region the last 15 years, other schools like Ryle and Beechwood, play small ball and win with pitching/defense. Myerhoff may not bunt as much, but uses it as an offensive tool just as effective. Congrats to the CCH Seniors on a great season and career. Bluesport
Will cch fans ever admit to getting beat by a better team, every time you hear excuses and now you are blaming the field. I don't think the surface changed when dixie was hitting I mean come on you people are always looking for excuses, if you get beat say you got beat and move on. They got beat and have moved on. Baseball in a one game scenario is so wacky. A 3 game series and they win.
Theoldguy
I don't have a dog in this fight but I don't understand why they would bunt in none sacrifice situations knowing that it's turf? CovCath placed one bunt down today and that was by Brady Reese for a hit. Off the top of my head I think they might of tried one or maybe two more today but didn't get those bunts down. Besides the errors, CovCath had 9 LOB's. You can't beat a quality team and pitcher likeDixie and Stansberry with those kind of numbers in the book. So do you now honestly believe CovCath averaged 4 or 5 sac bunts per game? I will wait for you to truthfully answer my question before I tell you the number. Honestly I only saw a few CCH games, and 4-5 is probably a bad statement. That would require getting a guy on with less than two outs almost every inning. My bad. However, in the games I've seen over the years, almost like clockwork, they get a guy on with less than two outs, they bunt. I've seen Leadoff doubles get bunted over, which I think is a bad play. In my experience, it never seems like they play for the big inning, even early in the game. And I think that hurts them in a one and out situation against good teams. And I would love to know the number of bunts and attempted bunts they had:). Again, admittedly, I don't have a clue, and some of my statement is based on perception and what others say.
