Ballard’s stadium deemed unsafe.

Recommended Posts

It's hard to believe that no one thought last season, "These stands might be unsafe. Maybe we should get this looked into right away." It's not like that type of deterioration happens over the course of one off-season.

Especially with the type of bleachers they are. Unless there was a recent earthquake in that part of Louisville no one knows about...

Some people at Ballard and/or the Jefferson County Schools should be losing their jobs over this.

Aren't the home side stands the old style concrete stadium seats?

The Courier-Journal article stated that the support structure for the stands has significant water damage, deterioration, and cracking. The AD said, "There are large chunks of concrete falling. You can see huge cracks in the walls."

Sounds like this was something that DEFINITELY should have been looked into sooner than August...and sooner than 2019.

AGREED! Most of those concrete stadiums use the space underneath. Hard to believe no one saw falling chunks of concrete or huge cracks.

I am not a structural engineer. I have seen some buildings which look completely normal that are unfit and you shouldn't be within 100 feet of and some buildings which look like a disaster but are structurally sound. General staff or fans may not know of or able to tell what issues there are. I assume however they have some kind of routine maintenance/inspection list they go through, it is just unfortunate this came about when it did. Glad they were able to capture this before something bad occured.
