Two threats in two days to Ryle High School - Updated 4 threats in 3 days

First Trinity, now Ryle.

Officials said a picture was posted online showing a person in dark clothing, holding a handgun, with a flag covering their face and a caption which read, "If ryle [sic] kids continue to pursue me, you will be capped..."

District officials said that the sheriff's informed them that deputies were investigating another student in connection to the threat. That student, the 15-year-old, said he was upset that others were talking about the earlier incident and threatened to shoot those who can't "keep their moths shut," according to deputies.

The "kids" were taken into custody and charged with Terroristic Threatening.

The Sheriff of Boone County assigned some extra deputies to Ryle High School.

School went on as normal this time around.

I wonder which school will be targeted next.

Sad world... 3 times in KY this school year after the foiled school shooting at Shelby County HS and the Brohm stunt at Trinity. We as a society need to take a hard look as to why this has happened so many times.

Society has not changed all that much. I graduated high school in 1976 and my senior year we had 2 or 3 bomb threats which cleared the school. The difference was we did not have social media to broadcast it all over the place.

FWIW, the Cal State Fullerton Massacre was in 1976. So mass shootings happened then, too.

During the early morning hours of 12/11/2018, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies took a third male juvenile into custody for threats directed at Larry A. Ryle High School. Deputies took into custody a 15 year old male juvenile, charged him with Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree and lodged him at the Campbell County Juvenile Detention Center.

At approximately 9:30 PM on 12/10/2018, concerned students and parents began reporting another social media post which described a threat directed at Ryle High School. The threat stated in part that Ryle High School would be a blood bath soon and that the person making the threat would “pop every mother [expletive] we can too”. This threat appeared to be retaliation in response to the 17 year old male juvenile who was taken into custody and charged on 12/10/2018.

Deputies acted quickly and worked closely with school administrators in an attempt to gather information in order to identify the person who posted the threat. The threat appeared to be a screen shot image from Snapchat but was displayed and used in a post on Instagram. Deputies were able to make contact with a person of interest and after conducting an interview of that subject, deputies obtained a full confession.

The 15 year old male juvenile who was taken into custody this morning does not attend Ryle High School but is a student at Cooper High School. He did not have access to weapons. The male juvenile stated to deputies that he does not know the 17 year old male juvenile who was previously charged despite the fact that the threat suggested differently. The male juvenile went on to state that he thought about the entire situation and decided to publish the threatening post anyway.

Charges in a criminal complaint are accusations only. It is the government’s burden to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

Scary times.

I really wonder what school systems are going to look like soon. I think the more and more this stuff keeps happening, the more and more likely parents are going to be to look for alternative options to educating their children.

You might be surprised that most have normal lives and the kids just do stupid stuff. I knew better in high school but still went drinking with my buddies until I had to admit I couldn't stand the taste of that crap lol.

In many cases, you’ll find it’s not all that unusual. The kids that do this stuff often have pretty normal lives.

My experiences have been it is all over the board. Some are troubled kids with limited parent involvement. Others you are shocked because the kid has never been in trouble and parents seem to have it together. 15-18 year olds sometimes just do stupid stuff. Always have, always will. Just hard to figure out sometimes. There seems to be no pattern.

Kids need to be more vigilant of their peers than ever before.

Hopefully their school districts have bullying reporting and student/school safety reporting mechanism in place for the students/parents.

There was a fourth threat directed towards Ryle High School this evening. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has taken the individual responsible for the threat into custody. Once again, we would like to thank the Boone County Sheriff’s Department for the assistance with these threats. We will continue to work the sheriff’s department to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Ryle will operate on a normal schedule and we will have additional staff and law enforcement at Ryle tomorrow.

Once again, we want to stress the importance of parents using this opportunity to have a discussion with their students about social media and the repercussions of posts of a threatening nature. The school district and law enforcement take this matter very seriously and appropriate discipline will follow.
