Two threats in two days to Ryle High School - Updated 4 threats in 3 days

Hard not to think about Clay Shrout with this.

I just watched a documentary about Clay Shrout the other day. Wonder if this had anything to do with the threats. I doubt it, but you never know.

I doubt that it did. He is up for parole next year though.

From the Boone County Schools’ Facebook page 30 minutes ago:

There was a fourth threat directed towards Ryle High School this evening. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has taken the individual responsible for the threat into custody. Once again, we would like to thank the Boone County Sheriff’s Department for the assistance with these threats. We will continue to work the sheriff’s department to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Ryle will operate on a normal schedule and we will have additional staff and law enforcement at Ryle tomorrow.

Once again, we want to stress the importance of parents using this opportunity to have a discussion with their students about social media and the repercussions of posts of a threatening nature. The school district and law enforcement take this matter very seriously and appropriate discipline will follow.

I believe the following is additional about the above, from the Boone County Sheriff's Office:

This evening a 17 year old juvenile female was taken into custody after making threats directed at Larry A. Ryle High School. The female juvenile, who is a student at Ryle High School, was charged with Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree and Resisting Arrest. The juvenile was lodged at the Campbell County Juvenile Detention Center.

At approximately 7:12 PM, Boone County Public Safety Communications Center (dispatch) received a call from the female juvenile’s mother stating that her daughter had just received a threat via Snapchat. The threat read, “since nobody showed up to school today just wait till tomorrow, i’m going to drive past the cafeteria during 3rd lunch with my dad’s machine gun and just shoot non stop”.

Deputies responded to the juvenile’s residence initiate the investigation. Deputies immediately recognized inconsistencies in the female juvenile’s story along with inconsistencies in her reported timeline of events. The female juvenile ultimately confessed that she made the threat and posted it to her Snapchat story because she did not want to go to school the next day.

Shortly after making a confession, the female juvenile fled the scene on foot. She was quickly detained by deputies and resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

Charges in a criminal complaint are accusations only. It is the government’s burden to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

Reaction to the words in bold: How do you not get it after three previous arrests for the same type of thing that this is taken very seriously and you aren't going to get away with it?!

[i would make some kind of sarcastic remark here but this is a minor]

The minor then proves that the sarcastic remark is true by fleeing on foot AFTER making a confession. And then compounds the trouble she is in by resisting arrest.

[A further sarcastic remark is warranted here but I am keeping it to myself]

I'm thinking they are going to take it to the limit and outright ban cell phones and social media at the school. I don't believe it is warranted but wouldn't put it past a high school in this day and age.

You can't ban it from their homes, thus banning it from the school doesn't really seem to do much.

In general terms here everyone, when I was involved with the Juvenile Justice System in Kentucky the push was always to keep juveniles/minors (anyone under 18 in trouble) out of Juvenile Detention.

In cases like this I would like to see a mandatory 30 days straight in Juvenile Detention and then very strict probation until the offenders are 18.

Think about it, if we just slap these offenders on the wrist this kind of thing is going to happen again and again.

Extra police presence at Dixie high school today because of a Snapchat threat. Parents, students and school officials on alert but the school is not closed.
