One of the biggest reasons HHS has been on so dominant for the last decade plus is stellar QB play. Tonight AUSTIN HERGOTT stepped into his D1 shoes and strutted his stuff. Congrats Austin. Do it again next week.

Now thats a bold prediction. It's been over 140 games and 10 years since HHS was last held scoreless.

One of the things that has helped CovCath and HHS in years past against JC is having played them a few times. They may be a one dimensional run only team, but that belly series that they run is hard to defend. Assignment football is a must. You can only learn so much by watching the films. Having the experience of coaching and playing against that offense is very important in stopping it. I think Scott struggles to stop JC. Hope I'm wrong.

Each of the previous 3 years, as a player's parent, HHS/CovCath playoff game day was the most nerve wrecking day I had. Was on pins and needles each time until game result was determined. This even though HHS was a clear favorite each time. This game is a toss up. Teams are evenly matched. Easier said than done, but the team that plays the "cleanest" game will win. The team with limited penalties and less turnovers will advance.

This will not be the popular choice on this site do to most of us not seeing them play but ..... the 1957 team is the team that set the standard. Undefeated regular season and mythical state champions. Outscored their opponents 411-44.

One poster came up with a top ten list. Every else critiques that list. How about rather than breaking down the first list - offer your own. I would if I knew anything about teams outside of N Ky - but I don't. My list would start and end with CovCath- they will be good and everyone else in N Ky will be trying to play spoiler.

Based on the posts in this thread, can I assume the 8th grade Hicks boy is going to be getting significant varsity minutes at Conner this year.

What I've learned from this thread is that the "culture" and that the "team chemistry" at Ryle was not conducive to a deep playoff run.

In 2006 and 2007 there was a bracket change for the playoffs. The first 2 rounds of the playoffs were within your own district. NCC was indeed the 3 seed, but they beat Holy Cross (#2 seed) to play Beechwood in the second round. 2006 is also the last season HHS did not make a regional final. Lost to CovCath in round two.

Mullins cleared and eligible immediately or at semester break?? I remember reading about two reasons 1) played varsity last season at Holmes, and 2) enrolled at Newport after deadline for first semester eligibility requirement.

Dougherty has been moved back to inside LB for several weeks now. After the season ending injury to Dressman, JD back to LB and now Sam Taylor is playing safety.

Scary thought if your a Bluebird fan. First game was 7-0 at half. HHS didn't blow it open until the 4th quarter. I'm looking for the Birds to be in control this time around by halftime.

I know nearly every year we have had a 4 vs 1 upset. I don't see it this year. One seeds go 48-0.

I fully expected HHS to dominate the Rebels in this game. The fact that they didn't doesn't change my opinion on how far I expect them to go in the playoffs. The previous three weeks the Birds had been able to avoid turning the ball over. Turnovers are great equalizers in a game. HHS scored early because of a BC turnover then proceeded to give the ball back to BC with an interception, a fumble, and a punt that grazed an up back. HHS did not handle the slick grass field very well also. A lot of slipping and sliding going on. Hergott specifically was having trouble with his footing. Finally worth mentioning is that Tyler Robinson sat this game out nursing a minor injury. He is by far the biggest and best DLineman for the Birds. BC would have had their hands full trying to run between the tackles with Tyler over the nose. Without him on the field, BC was able to string together first downs and play keep away with ball.

As crazy as winless teams making the playoffs is.... Only KHSAA could devise a system where a winless team is a 3 seed in a 4 team district set-up. ( See Boone Co HS )

My question was would they have faired better versus unranked Graves Co's schedule. I believe they were 5-5.

^^^^^ Maybe HHS would have faired better than Graves against their schedule, hence I had them ranked higher. What about Southwestern, South Oldham, and Montgomery Co? How would they have done, better than 5-5?
