If Belfry wins this week it will be win #400 for Philip Haywood. That is an incredible number, and ranks pretty high nationally among active coaches. But we can wait and talk about that next week if it comes to fruition. That isn't what I came here to ask.

 

It made me wonder which coach in KY has the most wins at one school? Coaching longevity is one thing, piling up a lot of wins over decades at one school is another accomplishment altogether, especially in the recent coaching climate.

 

So I was hoping we could compile a list of coaching wins by coaches at one single school.

 

I think Bob Schneider has that record in KY, where he had 345 wins, all at Newport Catholic. Is that right?

 

Coach Haywood has 327 as of today at Belfry, and another 72 at Prestonsburg

 

Sam Harp has 326, and the KHSAA page only lists Danville, but in the back of my mind I though he coached somewhere else (maybe Adair Co)

 

Dudley Hilton is credited with 354, and that was spread over at least 3 schools (Bell, Bourbon, Taylor) and I think he also coached at Breathitt Co. Obviously most of those are at Bell. I'd like to know that number.

 

Who else?

Coach Harp was at Calloway County and Anderson before he came to Danville in '88.

 

Dudley was at Breathitt before he left for Bell, but I'm not exactly sure of the year...in the early-mid 80's I believe.

I'm not sure on the number of wins, but I know he won 7 State Titles from 89-03 and was Runner Up in 98, 04 and 06. Danville had won 3 State Titles prior to 89 (his first championship at Danville).

Sam's first season was '88 correct? Lost his first three, then ended up in the state semifinals, losing to Somerset. Won it all the next year.

Yep. "For Sale" signs were put in his front yard after those first three L's of that season. They opened up with Henry Clay, Somerset and St. X in '88 as the three losses. Rematch with Somerset in the semis, then Fort Knox took care of Somerset (for the 2nd time) in the finals.

Bob Beatty has 193 games under his belt. Not close to the numbers posted above, but he averages 12.8 wins per season which isn't shabby.

Concerning BG Head Coaches All-Time, Dan Haley is second at 119 wins from 1984 to 1995.

Current Coach Kevin Wallace is BG's all-time winningest Head Coach with 225 wins from 1996 to 2015. Not up in the numbers above, but pretty respectable.

One HC in your immediate area Watusi, would be Hillard Howard with 244 wins, mostly at Pikeville. The remaining wins of course would be at LCC.

400 is A LOT of wins.

Dale Mueller went 250-36 at Highlands. Overall 309-67.
