frankdracman23 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Got to be a lot of teams that have played in a Regional Final for XX number of years consecutively. Anyone know which teams have the longest streaks of reaching a Regional Final?
All Tell Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 The last time that Trinity didn't make it was 2004 so this is 11 in a row for them. Highlands could be longer.
Voice of Reason Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Beechwood's last loss before a regional final was in 2006 to New Cath. That makes their streak 9 in a row. I am thinking New Cath has a streak that may be as long as Trinity's.
Nathaniel Bryan Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 This is John Hardin's ninth consecutive region finals appearance. Lost in second round to Meade in 2006 before starting the streak.
Nathaniel Bryan Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 The last time that Trinity didn't make it was 2004 so this is 11 in a row for them. Highlands could be longer. Highlands lost to Covington Catholic in second round in 2006, so the Birds are at 9 as well.
Nathaniel Bryan Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Mayfield lost in the second round in 97, but has played at least 13 games every season starting in 1998. So the Cardinals are in their 18th consecutive region final (and 25th in the last 26 years with 97 being the only hiccup starting in 1990). --- Louisville Central's in its 10th consecutive region final after losing to Boyle County in the second round of the 2005 Class 3-A playoffs.
Voice of Reason Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I did some quick research and I believe New Cath's streak of regional finals appearances goes all the way back to 1999, when they lost in round 2 to Bellevue. That puts their streak at 16 consecutive regional finals if I am right.
Voice of Reason Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 How about Belfry? They are the only team I can think of that might challenge Mayfield's streak.
ColonelCrazy Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 The last time that Trinity didn't make it was 2004 so this is 11 in a row for them. Highlands could be longer. Didn't Brian Brohm graduate in 2004?
Nathaniel Bryan Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Didn't Brian Brohm graduate in 2004? If he graduated in spring of 2004, he did NOT play in fall of 2004.
Nathaniel Bryan Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 How about Belfry? They are the only team I can think of that might challenge Mayfield's streak. Sheldon Clark beat Belfry in second round in 2009. Belfry also lost to Breathitt County in second round in 2000.
bucsvoice68 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Belfry's streak is 6 straight as they didn't make the region final in 2009. They have been in 13/14 if I'm not mistaken dating back to 2002.
ggclfan Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I did some quick research and I believe New Cath's streak of regional finals appearances goes all the way back to 1999, when they lost in round 2 to Bellevue. That puts their streak at 16 consecutive regional finals if I am right. That is impressive and I would not have guessed that...good for the Breds...
littleluck55 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 While I was doing a little research, I came across Highlands has a 29 straight home playoff victory streak. The last time Highlands lost at home in the playoffs was 2005 against Lexington Catholic. Also, Highlands clinched its 60th winning season in a row with the win last night.
Voice of Reason Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 That is impressive and I would not have guessed that...good for the Breds... Yes, the strange thing about that is Beechwood and New Cath were in the same district prior to 2007. However, because of the way the brackets went those two did not meet till the regional finals in several of those years. There must have been a bracket change in there somewhere because Beechwood's streak was stopped by New Cath in 2006 before the regional finals.
