  1. Kentucky graduated one kid last year that is playing for a "small"??? D-1 school in the OVC or the MAC, and that is Josh Sewell. I'm sure Ponder is a good player but Josh was second to Justice for Mr. KY Basketball; All-State his Jr. & Sr. years, MVP of the LIT, KOB and the 5/3 Classic last year and already had his scholarship by the summer going into his senior year. I don't think you realize what kind of player it takes to get a scholarship or even play at that level. I'm definitely not knocking Ponder, but I've seen Madison Southern play 4 or 5 times the last two years, and I've never heard of him, nor have I heard anyone talking about him (ie. Demling, Bolus, Rivals, etc.). If his abilities were what you say they are the college coaches would have kept on recruiting him and actually would have already offered. Division 1 schools have already offered and most future D1 players have already accepted those offers, unless the player has so many options that they will sign later this spring. From what you and others are saying, sounds like he can play at the next; level but Division 1?
  2. I agree what you are saying about a good JV team. The only time a good JV team means anything, is if the Varisty team is an absolute power-house and there is no room for an outstanding underclassman to get PT at the Varsity level. This is VERY seldom the case. Most of the time good JV teams have Juniors playing against the other teams freshmen and sophomores because the other teams better underclassmen are playing varsity. At any school the outstanding Sophomores and Juniors are only playing Varisity (and in some cases, the outstanding freshmen, ie. Hatton)
  3. I don't agree with the statement...."too many strong teams in the 9th". I would say too many average teams of the same caliber.
  4. Walter, looks like Boone Co. kept Holmes off the offensive glass with Brown and Crabtree both having a double/double.
  5. Close, but not Pikeville. Betsy Layne is in Floyd Co. which would be Prestonsburg.
  6. Boone's biggest problem will be getting the ball up the court against Holmes' full court press. If they try to dribble up the court, they will struggle. They need to bring one of the big guys down and throw over the press. In the half court set, if Holmes attacks the seams of the zone defense they will get Boone in foul trouble because Boone's players are not quick enough to stop the penetration and Holmes will win. If Holmes settles for the outside shot they will get beat because the size of Boone will keep Holmes off the offensive boards.
  7. Exactly what I said would be CC's weakness before the season started.
  8. Old gym, usual Lex Cath refs = GRC has a tough way to go. I can see LC winning this one.
  9. This years draw is very similar to last years draw. The bottom half of the bracket is extrememly weak. Last year, Ballard, Warren Central, Scott Co., Christian Co., and Shelby Co. beat each other up to get to the finals and Shelby Valley had a "cake walk" to the finals. By the time Saturday night came around Ballard was out of gas from playing extremely tough games against, Shelby Co., Warren Central and Scott Co. I don't like the blind draw either, I would like to see the committee seed the 16 teams (like the NCAA) and give the top two seeds the opportunity to play Saturday night. This year in the bottom bracket, you could have a couple teams not even in the top 25 in KY make it to the quarterfinals of the Sweet 16.
  10. I was not questioning the 4 turnovers, I was questioning how a team could only force 4 turnovers. If I were a coach and my team only forced 4 turnovers in an entire game, that tells me that the players are standing back on their heels waiting for the offense to do whatever they want.
  11. If Gallatin only committed 4 turnovers; that means Owen didn't play defense. I've never seen any team only have 4 turnovers in a game.
  12. Not too impressive when Highlands only scored 18 points the same 3 quarters!
  13. It's a shame a kid with his talent quits in the middle of the year but good luck to him with his search for a school that can use his football talent.
  14. Come on Walter, just admit it. Your team just got blown out. Princeton had 11 kids score and was up 16 at the half. Any time you see 11 kids in the box score, it's usually a blow out because the coach is emptying the bench. Holmes will be fine against teams this side of the river. Looks like they just ran into a buzz-saw!
  15. Breeden is a very good coach. He likes to slow the game down and gets the most out of what talent he has. Helps a lot having Barkesdale and Fucci. Wasn't Jeffersontown still missing Zach Price?
  16. No doubt that Ryle will try to slow the game down and play a half court game. The question is, can Ryle handle the press? I think it will be a game in the 50's and the winning margin will be less than three. With the game at Ryle, I think it's a coin toss.
  17. Suprised by the score, either Holy Cross is no where near as strong as I thought or NCC just played a dominating game.
  18. Good showing for Dixie to lose a close game to Western then blow CC out.
  19. Conner is now 8-12, and I can see them losing 6 or 7 more games this year. I can't believe I picked them to win the 9th Region. What is wrong with this team? Is Hicks trying to lull everyone to sleep and pull another rabbit out of his hat in the district tournament and win it like he did a few years back?
  20. Didn't say Coach McQueary was trying to showcase his son. The statement was that Coach McQueary always used the same gameplan for years no matter what his players strength were. Now all of a sudden, his offensive and defensive styles have changed, completely.
  21. You are taking wildcatfan's comment "Does not mater how many actually played college ball" out of context. He is saying this conversation has nothing to do with who played college ball. It was talking about TALENT. Actually kids going on to the next level that have the talent to is every players and parents goal. From what I've seen, Coach M has not been very successful getting his players to that level, especially with the talent that he has had over the past several years. He never changed his coaching gameplan to maximize talent that he had. He always ran the same offense or defense no matter who he had playing. A good coach will do everything he can to help his players get to the next level, if they have the talent and grades to do so. From what posters put on this site, he has not done that with the talented players that have played for him. Now all of a sudden that his son is playing, he uses a complete different gameplan that he has ever used since being at Boone Co. ie...... He very rarely played a zone defense, now that's all he plays. He did not allow players to shoot the three unless the ball went to the post first, now players are allowed to shoot the three. He utilized his bench a lot and played several players at the guard position, now he doesn't use his bench ............................ Funny how things change when the coaches sons are on the court! Now that gameplan has changed to suit the talent or weaknesses that his players have. Roman Empire you are always the first one to get out there and defend Coach McQueary, don't see many others doing it, you say he is one of the best coaches in NKY? I've not seen many agree, most of the time you hear the exact opposite. I've seen many on here complaining about his coaching instead of praising him. Where there is smoke there is fire! Take his last three years records out of his career record, and you will see the how good a coach he is. He walked into a myrid of talent over the past three years and has benifited from it. I have never heard a previous player or parent of a previous player say they have experienced the "life changing" experiences you speak of. I'm not questioning his character, I'm sure he a good person and I've not heard different. I just don't think he is one of the best coaches in NKY. This is my opinion and observations...and as you say, this is what this forum is for.
  22. Did Holmes' speed and full court press have anything to do with them winning the game?
