  1. I agree, very few if any other high schools in this area play that style of ball.
  2. That's just NKY basketball and the way it always has been. They usually walk the ball up the court and run a half court set. Play man to man and very seldom press. Very unimaginative basketball. That's why when teams from NKY go to Louisville or Central KY, they usually get beat. They need to change with the times, if they don't, they will continue to get beat when they leave the "safe place" they call NKY. Holmes has been the only exception recently because they had the athletes with well above average basketball skills. Just look at some of the final scores in the past and recent regional tournaments, scoring in the 20"s, 30's & 40's. You don't see scores that low anywhere else in the state. Playing the trapping defenses and press defenses and being effective ususally takes years of practice and the lower level (ie middle school) teams run the same system as the high school. From what I've seen NKY, very few high school coaches are involved with pre high school programs.
  3. Maybe this will help you to relate WHAT I'm saying. Pitt just got beat tonight by U Conn. Pitt is currently #3 in the nation. They didn't win their conference tournament. Yet they go to the NCAA Tournament and will be a #1 or 2 seed. The Big East will end up having 5-7 teams in the NCAA Tournament. Morehead won the OVC; they will be the only OVC team in the NCAA Tournament. I know the Sweet Sixteen is high school basketball. I would just like to see the best teams in the state playing for the state championship trophy. JMO
  4. Only one can come out of a region. How many top 20 teams are in the 7th and 11th? I'll answer that.....At least 10, and actually there are 8 in the top 11! No matter how good or bad these teams play only 2 go to the Sweet Sixteen. I just think if you are going to have a state championship tournament, you should have the best teams in the state playing in it. With the current format, 7 of the top 11 teams in the state ARE NOT playing in the Sweet Sixteen! also... With the current format, only 6 of the top 20 teams in the state ARE playing in the Sweet Sixteen!
  5. Opening Round 1. George Rogers Clark 1. Eastern 1. Christian County 1. Lexington Catholic 1. Rowan County 1. Perry County Central 1. Bullit East 1. Marshall County Semi-Finals 2. Eastern 2. Lexington Catholic 2. Rowan County 2. Bullit East Finals 3. Eastern 3. Bullit East 2011 Sweet 16 State Champion Eastern Tiebreaker 135
  6. Less than half the teams in the NCAA tournament got their bid by winning their conference tournament. The rest get there based on their season performance. I would guarantee that every top twenty team that does not win their conference tournament will be playing in the NCAA Tournament. Example....If KY does not win the SEC Tournament, they will still be playing in the NCAA Tournament in a couple weeks. There are at least 6 of the top 10 teams in the state not playing in the Sweet 16 but a team with a losing record and probably wasn't ranked in the top 75 teams in the state is playing. Once again, not knocking Shelby Valley, they won their region and they won the right to be there. I just don't like the current format. I don't have a problem with the regional winners being there, I have a problem with the six top ten teams in the state not participating for the state championship.
  7. I'll go with Eastern, they are peaking at the right time.
  8. Dominate performance! No suprise on the win, but didn't expect a winning margin this large.
  9. Nothing against Shelby Valley, but are they the best team in the 15th Region? Like I just said, I have absolutely nothing against Shelby Valley, I just dislike the current Sweet Sixteen format.
  10. Unbelieveable! SV didn't even win their district! The bottom half of the bracket is so weak, this team could have made it to the final four or maybe even the finals if they were in the bottom bracket!!!!!! The Sweet Sixteen definitely doesn't reflect the top teams in the state. A team with a 13-17 record that has lost several games to teams with losing records, pulls out three upsets in an extremely weak region and goes to Rupp. Then you have teams like Ballard, Tates Creek, J-Town, Scott Co, Western, Bowling Green, Henry Clay, etc. sitting in the stands watching the state tournament. I like seeing the sixteen regional winners at Rupp but I think they should add at least another 8 at-large teams (determined by a committee) that play play-in games against the 8 lowest seeded regional winners. I think a format similar to this would pretty much guarantee most all of the top teams in the state would be in the tournament. Last year you had Ballard, Scott Co., Shelby Co., Warren Central, Christian Co. all in the top bracket beating each other up to get to the finals, then you had Shelby Valley that had a cake walk to the finals and ended up beating Ballard in the finals. The same thing will probably happen again this year.:irked:
  11. How does a 5-17 team get into the 9th Region tournament? That must one weak district.
  12. 6'10" Louisville recruit, 5 points? I would not think he was near 100%?
  13. The ref that made the call was just outside the elbow of the three point line "point blank" in front of the play. He was right on top of it. He just flat out blew the call! From his angle, he could see Downs run right into McQueary. Refs should not call what they think they saw. They should make the call based on what they actually see. Better call the Sheriff, Cooper was robbed!
  14. Could the answer be.............What is playing Mason Co. in the "Fieldhouse" in the 10th region tournament? Mason Co. is just flat out hard to beat at home in the regional tournament.
  15. I haven't seen a call so blatantly bad since the refs blew the call in last years 11th Region tournament when they disallowed a basket at the buzzer that kept Franklin Co. beating Henry Clay. I'm referring to bad calls at the end of a game that effect the outcome.
  16. You are correct about the ????foul???? Here is the questionable foul posted on Boone Co HS Basketball website. http://www.crickmervirtualcoach.com/BooneCounty/home.html Pause it when the ball is being shot, it is obvious Downs runs into McCreary and nobody even touches Downs.
  17. I believe your quote wins "the most excuses for a loss" that I've ever seen!
  18. Suprised by the score, looks like Wayne Co. hung tough with Catholic.
  19. Looks like a blow-out, Madison Central had 13 players score. NKY teams just don't fare well when they leave the confides of NKY.
  20. Ponder not playing D-1 basketball has nothing to do with Southern's performance this year. If he is good enough, they will find him or at least keep recruiting him.
  21. Didn't Conner go winless in the 9th region during regular season games a few years back and then end up winning the 33rd district tournament?
