Not surprised by this. Holmes has trouble with Boone County and especially at their place. A lot like when they play Ryle.

I can't see it any other way. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Ryle win tonight over Dixie either.

Crabtree for Boone also had a double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Big double-double for the player of the game, Curtis Crabtree. Great game for this senior who has been in the shadows. Way to play big guy.

Walter, looks like Boone Co. kept Holmes off the offensive glass with Brown and Crabtree both having a double/double.

So Boone was able to survive in a high scoring game against the Dogs. McQueary has had some nice success against Holmes the past few seasons.

Agreed. Great first half tonight that set the tone.

Just got in from the game:

 

First quarter Holmes came out running and Boone had no answer. Dogs started the game up 13-4 but Boone would respond in a big way. They scored 12 straight to take a 16-13 lead and then after a Gray bucket, Boateng (s?) hit a 3 with time winding down in the first to give Boone a 19-15 lead at the end of one.

 

Second quarter, Boone came out on a 6-0 run to take a 25-15 lead. Next few possessions were back and forth with Boone holding an 9-12 point lead. Rebels constantly had an answer for any Holmes bucket or mini run. Boone scored 2 of the final 3 baskets of the half to go in to the half up 12 at 37-25.

 

Third quarter, Holmes played much better. Dogs started the quarter on a 7-0 run led by Knox, Palmer, and Gray, but McQueary hit a big 3 to end the run and put Boone back up 8, at 40-32. Holmes then went on a 10-4 run to close to 44-42 and had the ball but a turnover gave the ball back to Boone and Stanley came up with a big 3 to send Boone in to the 4th with a 47-42 advantage.

 

Fourth quarter, Coston scored to close the gap to 3 at 47-44, but several turnovers in a row allowed Boone to go on an 8-0 run to put the Rebels back up 55-44. Rice and Hayes responded with back to back baskets to make it 55-48, but once again McQueary hit another 3 to put the Rebels up 10 at 58-48. Peterson then got 4 straight to make it an 8 point game again at 60-52, but Boone made 2 free throws to make the margin 10 once again. With the score 64-54, Holmes went on a 6-1 run to make it 65-60. Boone then made two free throws and Hayes hit a big 3 to make it 67-63. Boone made 3 more free throws to go up 7 but Gray got a basket at the other end to make it 70-65. Gray then got a steal on the inbounds play and missed a wide open lay up that would've made it 70-67 with around 20 seconds left. Boone made two more free throws and that would be the final.

 

Boone was more physical than Holmes in the first half and that's what allowed them to hold on for the W. Holmes made their run in the second half but simply couldn't capitalize on the mistakes Boone made. Too many turnovers.

 

I will say this...the refs were absolutely horrible both ways. One of the most inconsistent crews I've ever seen. They call a touch foul on Hayes but then don't call it late in the game when he clearly tried to reach around and either foul or poke the ball away from Stanley. Also, a lot of banging down low that went "un-noticed" the entire game. I can remember atleast twice where a foul should've been called on Brown, as Knox went in to him on the shot, but they give it to McQueary. Brown had two fouls at the time of both calls that were given to McQueary. Ole' bitter beer face Chapman was definetly getting the business from both sides.

 

Boone was the better team tonight but I'd love to see these two meet up on a neutral court. Boone is 2-0 against Holmes the past two times they've met at Boone...0-3 on the road/neutral court.

Congrats to the REbels. If their guards can play solidly and they get the production out of Crabtree and Brown with McQueary being a deep threat they can win the Region.
