Sounds like both Hayes and Gray played well with 22 and 17.

 

To see Ulysses Thomas of Princeton with only 4 points is very surprising. I watched him do whatever he wanted against Mason Co earlier in the year at NKU.

From the boxscore it looks like Rice had another of his disappearing acts. Anyone know if he was in foul trouble? He has to want it every night like it seems Gray does at this point and time. Also no help from the bench in the box, Peterson??

As you can see from the box score though, Princeton is obviously much deeper than what I thought. I knew they played a lot of guys from seeing them against Mason Co, but it looks like their depth has really improved.

 

As far as Rice goes, to be fair, he also held Ulysses Thomas to just 4 points. Thomas is a mid major D1 prospect and started last year for Princeton when they were loaded with Sibert and Co.

Come on Walter, just admit it. Your team just got blown out. Princeton had 11 kids score and was up 16 at the half. Any time you see 11 kids in the box score, it's usually a blow out because the coach is emptying the bench.

 

Holmes will be fine against teams this side of the river. Looks like they just ran into a buzz-saw!

From what I have seen of this team they seem to "NOT" be selfish and with that said I think Rice needs to seek out the ball more on the offensive end. He is their only real inside offensive threat as a scorer and needs to make his presence felt to open it up for the outside guys. This will be a problem when they play the teams like Boone Co., NewCath and probably Dixie as well when they get zones thrown against them.

Where did I ever say they didn't get blown out? I said in the predictions thread that this was going to be an extremely tough game for Holmes because of how talented Princeton is.

 

As far as 11 guys scoring, you're wrong there. I talked to Coach Andrews before the Mason Co game and he himself said that he plays a lot of guys for the simple fact that he doesn't have much experience this year so he's trying to develop that.

 

Check out a Princeton box score and you'll see that they regularly put 8-10 guys in the box score, regardless of the score or outcome. They beat Mason, OH by 5 and had 8 guys in the box score with 10 seeing the floor. In a 6 point loss to Lakota East, they had 11 guys see the floor with 10 getting in the box score.

Holmes looks best offensively when Hayes or Gray are driving the lane and find Rice down low for easy baskets. Of his 14 points against Campbell Co, I'd say atleast 10 of those came off assists from Gray, Hayes, or Palmer. Rice also makes a living down low with put backs because of his ability to sky above everyone on missed shots. He simply isn't a post player. He plays the 2 guard or 3 on his AAU team. He is much like Greg Rice. Forced to play the post, but much better as a face up player.

 

He'll be fine. Princeton has a pretty solid front court with Thomas, Hill, and McCants. All three are mirror images of Rice but with a little more strength.
