Once you are in the high school ranks, 14U and up an AAU team can have as many age exceptions that they want. The player just can't be two years older than they should be and they have to be in the grade that they are playing in. The only exception is at the 17U age level if you are an unsigned senior. In the high school age divisions most AAU teams are all-star teams, the "average" players start to get weeded out. Playing in the "big" tournaments is what gets the kids seen (especially at the D1 level, but also, D2 and NAIA). Tournaments like the Real Deal on the Hill, Pittsburgh Jam-Fest, King James, Knox-vegas, Spiece Run-n-slam, Bob Gibbons, Adidas It-takes-five, Morgantown Harley Davidson Classic are where the All-star AAU teams are playing. Post season they are either going to Vegas or Orlando. If you look at past rosters of some of the All-star AAU teams, you will see that almost every player on those teams are playing or will play college ball somewhere. That is why parents put the time and effort in teams like that. If they go D1, D2 or NAIA they are getting athletic scholarship money to pay for their education. Below the D1 level the athletic money depends on how bad they want the player and what academic and financial aid (if eligible) money doesn't pay for. But, the biggest thing that kids tend to forget, they can't play at the D1, D2, NAIA or even D3 level without having the appropriate ACT score, high school grades and class academic ranking. No matter how good they are if they don't have the previous list, they end up going JUCO or not going to school at all.

Ft. Wayne is where it is "AT" this weekend. The Spiece Run-N-Slam Tournament is one of the top tournaments this side of the Mississippi.

Because, uncommon to what you post (statements without knowing the facts) these were actual facts about Flannery's recruitment. A few weeks ago, Coach Corey Stitzel of James Madison contacted Flannery's parents and offered a "recruited walk-on" positon with the opportunity to receive a scholarship the following year. The statement made was that JMU had a bunch of athletes but no pure shooters. Coach Stitzel said that he had watched Flannery play about 40 games since last spring and that he had a set of skills they needed, as seen in this years NCAA tournament. And as far as NKU, Coach Bezold has been involved with Flannery since his sophomore year when he was in NKY. Flannery was offered a preferred walk-on position with NKU last fall, but after the spring of 2010 when all the transfers make their move, and depending on available scholarships at the end of the spring transfer period (what we are currently in), a scholarship may be available. So, maybe you should not make comments questioning an 18 year old high school kids recruitment unless you know the FACTS. Flannery is a young 18 at that, according to his father, he turned 18 this year during the state tournament. These are coaches that have watched Flannery for several seasons and has seen his development over the years, I have no idea how many games you have seen him play, but their professional opinion means a lot more than yours. I just hate to see an adult try to belittle a kids effort and accomplishments, especially when they have no idea what they are talking about.:madman:

So in the D1 division if a team wins two games they are the State Champions? I believe I would but both divisions together and have one State champion. JMO

By looking at your previous quotes, you don't have anything positive to say about anybody or anything! From what I'm told, Flannery has not signed because of other offers on the table. He currently has offers from Walsh University, Asbury University, James Madison and NKU. Other schools have shown interest but these are the schools that he has narrowed it down to. He was at Asbury Unviersity today on a visit. And by looking at the stats on KHSAA's website, he is 6'3" and averaged double digits shooting over 50% from the field and 40% from three. Doesn't look like a streaky shooting guard to me. Hate to say this but he will play at the next level whether you think he can or can't.

You are kidding? Right? A guidance counselor can't make a kid come to school, a guidance counselor can't make a kid do his/her homework, a guidance counselor can't make a kid study. That's what his parents are for. If his parents aren't doing their job then maybe a family member should help out. If the kid is not getting help from a family member or his/her parents maybe a close friend or coach could help out. It's easy to blame the school, the school has dozens of kids that need help, not just the athletes. The people that have been riding his coat tail coaching him and supposedly mentoring him should have been helping and giving guidance. I'm sure the guidance counselor at Holmes High School does a very good job and is probably overwhelmed with the opportunities at Holmes. Education begins at home. It's definitely not the guidance counselors fault.

I really question some of the HM selections. Granted all the kids selected are very good players but there are several not listed that are better players, have better season and career stats and played on better teams than some of those chosen. Wow, there a couple of schools that have three players listed and a couple more with two players listed??? JMO

DI, DII, or NAIA, what does it matter? If a high school kid is going to play at any of these three levels, that means all or a portion of their college is being paid for with an athletic scholarship (unless they walk-on). For any high school athlete to be fortunate enough to play at that level is a great accomplishment and I congratulate them. A very small percentage of high school basketball players go on to play college basketball. Every kid wants a DI offer but I believe if it were my kid I would rather my son go to a school that will give him the best opportunity for success academically. If his passion is to play, then a DI offer may not be the best situation for him. A lower level could result in immediate playing time or playing time at a earlier stage in his college career. Different strokes for different folks!:thumb:

Here are a few things I've seen over the years. High school coaches do the voting. High school coaches do not like AAU. What a kid does outside of High School ball does not matter to the high school coaches. If a senior is going to UK, it's pretty much a lock. If a strong candidate is from Eastern KY, they have a very good chance at getting the majority of the votes from the Eastern KY coaches. They tend to stick together and take care of their own. Not all coaches vote. Some only do if they have a favorite or someone they specifically want to win it. The schedule the candidates high school team plays has nothing to do with the voting. Scoring the most points does not constitute a lock for the award. If two or more candidates are on one high school team, neither one will win. The coaches played Napier, they did not shut him out. The defense shut him out. He needs to improve his moving without the ball, a quicker release and creating his shot with defense on him. When left open he is dangerous, but when someone is guarding him, he is not a threat.

Open mouth insert foot!!!!!! I don't understand what you are accomplishing by saying what you said. Why can't you just be happy for the kid. In a situation like this if you don't have anything positive to say, it's best to say nothing! Here is a 17 year old kid that has the opportunity to continue his passion for basketball and get a free education. All I have to say is, Congratulations to Treg, don't pay attention to the childish adults that get on here and try to belittle you or your accomplishments. Good luck in Carbondale.:thumb:

Highlands definitely is not "Holier than thou".:notworthy: Name one transfer that had a parent work at Toyota (since you know so much). Please state some of the facts that you know.....because you are continuely finger-pointing. Scott Co. has a good program just as Highlands has, they will continue to draw good athletes that move into the Central KY area. I don't think any of the hometown folks are happy about the problems that Toyota is having. I would bet that Toyota is a big part of the community in Scott Co.

Looking on the scoreboard, only 15 of their 36 games were 11th region games.

How is GRC any different. Zollo, Rogers, Brewer (came and went), not sure of the others. Those that live in a glass house should not throw stones!

I agree. "All In" seems to start some questionable threads. Leave the kid alone. He wants to go to Louisville, why start a thread that will cause some people to say negative things about a kid.

Underachieve? What planet are you from? Fraley won the 14th Region with teams like PCC and Hazard right on his heels; and if you didn't notice, KCC played in the Sweet Sixteen! How can you say that going to the state tournament underachieving? Hicks blew out everyone in the 11th Region tournament and made it to Saturday morning and got beat in the final four. You call this underachieving? You've got to be kidding!:puke: I guess if Calipari does not lead his team to the championship game he underachieved too? Wow, maybe you should be a high school coach because I'm sure you could easily win the state tournament.

It makes one think, after you posted this I looked at all the games in the state tournament and there were only 7 other players foul out in a game during the entire tournament. Scott Co. had 7 players foul out in just two games. It just happened to be the quarter-finals and semi-finals.:confused: Also went Scott Co's website and looked at the stats and in the other 34 games they played they only had 18 players foul out of a game. Competition no different from the state tournament, their schedule was unbelievably tough. Looks extremely odd to me?????
