I know it's not even midway through baseball season yet, but just thought I'd get some chatter going about next year's Mr Basketball candidates.

 

Who will likely be preseason favorite?

 

Who could emerge as a dark horse the way Sewell and Justice did this year?

 

Could this be one of the most wide open races as there's ever been with all the talent in the 2011 class?

 

My early list of candidates would be the following:

 

6'7 Chane Behanan- Bowling Green

6'9 Vinny Zollo- Clark Co

6'4 Robbie Stenzel- Clark Co

6'6 George Fant- Warren Central

6'3 Remy Abell- Easten

6'7 Timmy Knipp- Elliott Co

 

Thoughts?

Anthony Hickey Christian Co. was as good as anyone at the Sweet 16.

My vote will be for Abell from Eastern. However his obstacle will be winning that region, saw what happened to the best player from that region this year when they didn't make it to Rupp. Knipp will lead the world in scoring again, should get out of the region, but will have to win a game or 2 at Rupp to be considered, IMO. The Clark kids will be competing with one another which likely will negate them. Fant or Behanan can contend also, but since they are in the same region, one will be home with the other at Rupp which will hurt one of them. Or at least that's my attempt with feeble logic.:idunno:

I agree that he's as good as anyone out there. He'll be the best point guard in the state next year, IMO.

 

We all seen what being the best pg in the state can do for your chances this year with Justice winning the award.

I've heard talks of Behanan going to prep school. After that I would say Knipp from Elliot Co. will win it. Avg 30pts ppg this year and will get most of the state votes.

Knipp would be a very good choice for Mr. Basketball next year along with the other players listed above.

Unless one has an OUTSTANDING season neither one will win because they will split the vote.

In 1999 Harmonie King and Whitney Lee (both from Montgomery County) were both expected to win Miss Basketball. Both had great seasons, but they split the vote and Jody Sizemore won with Harmonie and Whitney finishing 2nd and 3rd.

Timmy Knipp will win Mr. Basketball hands down!

My top 3 would be: Behanan, Knipp, Zollo (in no particular order).

I think the GRC combo could really help themselves if they make a long run and get into the State Tourny. Mr. Basketball is a full season of work regular and postseason making a deep run in March will help the 2011 winner.

I think if Behanan is still in this state he is Mr. Basketball. I saw quite a few kids play this year and i thought he was the best player in the state this past seaon. Regardless of class he was the best player. I think he is closer to 6'9" 250 than the above listed 6'7".

The only thing about Knipp is will the schedule give him enough exposure to win the award?

 

Knipp will lead the state in scoring most likely, but the 16th region is one of the worse regions in the state. Jon Ferguson had a huge year last year but still didn't win the award. I could see a similar outcome for Knipp as well.

 

When it comes to talent, Behanan is hands down the best player in the state. Kid has averaged a double double all 3 years of his high school career and I'd expect those numbers to be outrageous next year as well.

IF Behanan is all that, he's gonna have to take his team to Rupp, something he was unable to do this season.

Knipp is in a situation to put up the biggest numbers so hes sitting pretty good right now.
