I think if Behanan is still in this state he is Mr. Basketball. I saw quite a few kids play this year and i thought he was the best player in the state this past seaon. Regardless of class he was the best player. I think he is closer to 6'9" 250 than the above listed 6'7".

Behanan has always been a dominating player and if he was considered the favorite to win OHIO Mr. Basketball his senior year, I like his chances even more over here in KY.

IF Behanan is all that, he's gonna have to take his team to Rupp, something he was unable to do this season.

Before he came to Bowling Green, the Purples were predicted to be the 5th or 6th best team in the region and he alone led them to the region championship where they lost a close game to Warren Central. He's in a similar situation that Jon Hood was in two years ago at MNH. Best player in the state, but not much talent around him.

I think it depends on whether or not he gets seen in Kentucky. His team needs to travel around and where people can find out how good he is. I know I watch a ton of high school basketball and can't remember him being close enough to central Ky where I could go see him that I know of.

But if Knipp leads the state in scoring and Elliott Co doesn't get back to Rupp should he not be considered for the award either?

 

Heck, Clark Co could get beat by Mason Co again this coming year. I don't think it'll happen but if they don't make it should Zollo (who will likely average a double double) and Stenzel not be considered for the award?

So in that 4 year span Pettigrew and Hood won it and both got beat out in the district. Miller and Justice won it and both won state titles. But at the same time, what if the best player in the state plays in a region like the 7th or 11th where there are 5-6 teams at times that could win any region in the state? Should that player be punished for not leading his team to Rupp?

I honestly think you could've switched Elisha Justice and Josh Sewell and both teams' seasons still would've played out the same way.

I don't think the number of points a boy scores should be a big factor in determing Mr Basketball. Some boys put up 40 shots a game while some may average 10-15 shots . The schedule and quality of talent they play against should also be a factor.

I agree...which is why I really liked Josh Sewell to win the award this year.

 

Before the state tournament, Elisha Justice had played against 2 top 20 teams and in one game he was out-shined by a junior, Anthony Hickey, and his team lost. His team goes through the weak side of the bracket in the state tournament, comes in to the state title game much fresher than Ballard, they win the title, and Justice wins the award.

 

Sewell on the other hand competed against that type of competition all year and all he did was show he was the best player on the court every night.

You know what? It's on the coach to promote his kid through some tough scheduling when you're in the 16th region if you want him to vie for the award. Go play some 7th region opponents, or GRC, or Bowling Green or Christian County. Play someone outside the region, have a good showing there, then you can be considered. What if a kid moves into Rose Hill next year for instance, and scores 45 a game? Now they may only score 49 a game as a team, wear the donut again this season and obviously not participate again in the post season. Should we consider him because he was the states top scorer? The answer is obvious. So, I suppose to sum up my opinion on the matter, if Knipp does all of those things, I think he'll win the award. If not, then someone else will.

With Hickey, Lewis, and Kates, Christian Co certainly will be one of the top 5-10 teams in the state,

 

At this point though, it's tough to go against Eastern or Clark Co:

 

Eastern- Remy Abell, Lyonell Gaines, Arman Marks, Kam Woods

Clark Co- Robbie Stenzel, Cory Rogers, Jaylen Daniel, Travis Purvis, Vinny Zollo

I think it also involves how far you carry your team in postseason play. GRC needs to make it to Rupp to have a chance at Mr. Basketball. (Zollo, Stenzel.)

I agree on both points. Also I have heard that Behanan is going to a prep school. Guess we will have to wait and see. I have read through the whole thread and there are some very valid points made for each player mentioned. Do any of you feel that AAU this summer and how some players do will have any effect?
