Surprised by the margin but this isn't the first double digit loss for Cov Cath. Six losses for the Colonels and five of those have been by more than 13 points.

Dixie shut Cov Cath down in the first half. Unfortunately for the Blue Colonels there was no coming back. Dixie played great basketball in the first half of this game. They were utilizing all of their talent on the floor tonight. It was a good win for Dixie.

Nice win for Dixie. Is CC missing anyone? Seems like they've fallen on hard times.

Not surprised, really. Score may be closer next time, but Dixie is the better team.

Can't speak for Coach L, but when this game got out of hand early he must've been looking forward to their next meeting and a possible meeting in the Regional tourney by giving the whole bench a taste of facing the Red Colonels now so they're not facing them cold down the road when it's going to matter most in crunch time. The Blue Colonels sure have their hands full at turning this ship around, but still have time to continue to build a deep confident bench so that when opponents find ways to shut Jake down, they'll have to have multitudes of other options to stay above water. I can't remember the last time a team has lost so bad but still had 11 players get into the score book. As good as Dixie is, I have to believe that CovCath has enough going for them to make the next meeting a more respectable one. It looks like Dixie, NewCath, Boone, & Holmes are really starting to separate themselves from the pack, but I don't think it hurt the Blue Colonels to gain some familiarity now with Dixie to give them something to shoot for in improving their chances later. Not an easy task for sure, but not undoable either. One thing though that I see sorely missing from the Blue Colonels that I see in the top 4 teams is GRIT and UNDYING FIRE. I don't think you can teach that, but somehow these guys, being the nice young gentlemen that they are, are gonna have to get mad and stay mad to grab onto that extra edge. At the risk of using a cliche, in basketball, 'nice guys finish last', and I don't think that these guys have worked so hard just to earn that award. If I can use NewCath as an example, they seem like nice guys too, but play with a grit that seems to carry them further even without the benefit of a deep bench. Come on Colonels... Congrats to Dixie, they really had Western on the ropes in game 1 of the Classic and let them get away. They continue to hold the number one spot in the 9th with this convincing win. And it is still in my humble opinion a wide open race with the target squarely on Dixies back.

No way Dixie isn't the hands down favorite to win the region after this performance. Congrats Colonels.

Connelly only played in the first period and sat the remainder of the game with an injury suffered in morning game.

 

Again, F/T shooting is plain awful. The bottomline, however, is that BBF is correct. These boys need to play much more aggressively than they have in recent games.

Oh, and unless someone steps up and shoots over the zone..... well, you know what that means.

Well put, that seems to be a what is missing the last couple weeks. Early in the year, when no one was giving them any credence they played with a chip on their shoulder. Now it seems they get down, and there isn't another gear to go to.

 

I think using Andrew Schult a little more might help this situation. He seems to always play like everything is on the line. Others can play that way, but don't seem to do it night in night out.

Pike sat quite a bit in this one for Dixie as well.

 

CovCath really needs to find more offensive resources than Thelen.

 

I see in the Boyle Co. game where he had 19 fg att's and 11 other players combine for 25 att's...not much balance.

This sounds like a statement game for the red Colonels. Let's see if they can back this up now with big games against the other top 9th region teams down the stretch. They could clearly establish themselves as the favorite to represent the 9th in Lexington by handling Holmes, Holy Cross, Ryle, CovCath again, Cooper and Boone Co.
