  1. While I do not know this to be true I fully believe it. Towles has more experience so I have no doubt he is sharper in practice. That being said practices don't mean anything when the lights of game time roll around. There have been several studs that were not practice players but they showed up on game day and when the pressure was on. Allen Iverson is the most polarizing, but Anthony Davis was not known as a practice warrior during his time at UK. With what we have seen from Towles when the lights are on I would make a switch and see how Barker does myself in a game situation. If Stoops and Dawson prefer to give Towles some more leash I am ok with that because they know more football than I, but if we continue to struggle throwing the football the giant elephant in the room will only get bigger IMO.
  2. I hope you are right. I have my doubts, or maybe I am just trying to keep from getting my hopes up to avoid a let down. Either way this game is almost a make or break game IMO.
  3. I don't think beating a bad Mizzou team will solve the problems with this UK team. Even if they win it is less impressive than the SC win since it is at home. We (UK) are still an extremely poor offensive football team and we do not throw the football well. Beating Mizzou will not change that. Better play calling, more accurate passing, and more solid QB decisions are the only remedy. (On a side not give me an ugly win over a pretty loss any day. Just I don't want to see another ugly loss like Florida)
  4. I do not see losing to maybe the worst Florida team in the past 10 years with the offense never finding the endzone (running 7 plays inside the 5 yard line) as progress. I see it as UK is still UK. We can sugar coat it all we want and say the talent gap is shrinking (I believe it is) but at the end of the day we lost a game that we had chances to win and we lost because we were unable to complete passes. Part of that is play calling, but I feel the play calling is dependent on the confidence the OC has in the QB. They can make all he statements they want about "Our Guy" and what not but the play calling does not resemble confidence in the QB to me.
  5. I just don't see it as being that simple. What is the staff supposed to say? "He was awful and couldn't throw a simple slant?" They would never get another commitment. Also the back up stuff is overplayed IMO. Brady was a back up to Bledsoe until he played (granted it was injury driven but did anyone think Bledsoe was starting again when healthy). When your margin for error is as slim as UK's and you have not found the endzone in 6 qtrs tough decisions have to be made. [For the record I do not think Barker is the next Tom Brady or anything crazy, I just do not think the difference between the 1st string and 2nd string is going to be a MASSIVE difference.]
  6. What big games? Barker has never played a snap so you can't compare the two. If you are talking about high school that is a joke. Tim Couch never won a state title. Neither did Andre Woodson. They turned out ok for UK. Don't confuse a team's success with individual ability at the high school level and then expect it to carry over to college. A large portion of the fan base has lost faith in Towles ability to lead UK. If a single player in the locker room feels the same way there is a problem and me personally if I was playing on the defense I would have a hard time buying into Towles at this point.
  7. I agree UK can and should win all those games, but in 1.5 games the offense has 0 points. Special Teams has 9 and defense has 2. That is sad. Will UK with Towles beat a very bad Mizzou team? Yes they should, but them killing Mizzou does not fix the problem. If Towles continues to show his inconsistency and poor decision making UK has no chance of competing in the SEC East with anyone not named Vandy, Mizzou, and bad SC teams. That is not good enough for UK fans right now because all we hear is how the talent level is up ywt we see the same ole same ole.
  8. I don't agree. High overthrows on slants and hitch/curl/hook routes are not due to the offensive line. It is all about mechanics and throwing the football. Towles has below average decision making and throws are erratic. At UK you will never compete in the SEC East unless you have solid QB play. It does not have to be great, but must be solid and Towles is not. Time for a change.
  9. I am not convinced that Towles can get this UK team to a bowl game. I do not believe UK will ever compete for the SEC East with Towles as the QB. His decision making is below average I feel and his throws are sporadic at best. If it were my decision I would go with Barker and see if it can ignite this offense. The defense did about all we could ask for. They were put in some tough spots but played well IMO.
  10. East is just not ready. They should consider dropping out of district play for a couple years, getting some wins and then resume district play. All the excitement the program is trying to build will fade with continued losses.
  11. The rest of AAA gets a cold chill up their spine after this score.
  12. Wow Even though I respect Kim Davis standing fast for her religious beliefs and think the U.S. Government has no business issuing marriage licenses to anyone (the government should issue civil unions that give all spouses all rights within the United States IMO, and any American should be allowed access. If they want a conventional marriage that is between the couple and the church of their denomination) this is about as crazy of a thing as I have ever heard. For the record I did not think there was a due process when dealing with contempt of court. Only if an individual is being charged with a crime. She has not been charged so I don't think there is a due process. She also has no criminal record despite having spent time in jail. Armed militia type personnel standing up to the U.S. Government will not end well. For Kim Davis, the armed militia, or anyone else IMO.
  13. A: Beechwood AA: Mayfield AAA: Belfry AAAA: Johnson Central AAAAA: Highlands AAAAAA: Trinity I think the gap between my picks and the next best teams is paper thin in all classes except A & AAAAAA.
  14. Snyder does at GREAT job at the independent. He and his crew cover local high school athletics about as good as you will see. Always like hearing/reading his work.
  15. East is much improved but West is the better team and should win. Watching the East vs Raceland game I was pleased with the passion East played with but they are behind in many when compared to other teams in the area. I am glad to see East move in the right direction but they are still a ways off. Numbers are up and excitement is abuzz in the community. Hope East can continue to improve but Rome was not built in a day.
  16. Those uniforms were awful. As a UK fan I LOVE seeing the Cards play at a high level. The way they battled back in the game is a true testimate about how much potential this UpfL team has. Love him or hate him Petrino is one of the best offensive minds in all of football and as long as he is on the sideline UofL will have a chance. Was really impressed with UofL's QB. Lot more to be excited about there then what we saw as UK fans from Towles. Good luck to the Cards the rest of the way.
  17. I couldn't agree more about Boom, but I think Jojo Kemp is the odd man out. He is to slow IMO. He sees the alleys he just can't accelerate through them. I would give his carries to Boom and Horton and let King get more involved. Play Jojo like a FB and use him in some waggles. Just my thoughts
  18. Kentucky is getting better talent wise. That being said there were major problems tonight. For starters we did not run the football. We hit on numerous long pass plays in the first half and everyone was happy. But in the 2nd half we were not hitting those passes and we fell behind on the sticks far to often. If you can not run the football and have success against ULL then you will not win in the SEC. We did run it on the last drive but if we would have ran it in the third and ate up some clock we may have not had to fight for our lives. Second, the open field tackling by the secondary is awful. I am not sure we could have tackled #25 in a phone booth. To many times we came in and dove at his legs. He was a scat back and we would not hit and grab cloth. Finally Towles. I love the character of the kid and hope he can be the QB the Cats need, but it seems like when faced with adversity he struggles. When momentum is on his side LOOK OUT. But when one or two things go wrong he presses to hard and his decision making and ball placement become big issues. In my view he is the QB for now, but 3 straight series vs USC like the second half tonight and Stoops better be looking at other options because I don't think we can be bowl eligible if we sit at 1-2 after the first three games. Just my thoughts On a side note the atmosphere before the game was the best I have ever experienced for opening day at Commonwealth.
  19. You can't bring it out in high school unless momentum brings you out. Could be miss by the officials.
  20. With Johnson Central's ability to control the line of scrimmage and slow down the flow of the game Lex. Cath. will want to score quick to attempt to make JC play from behind. Hard for a running team to play catch up and take long time consuming drives. This could be the best game in the state and I look for it to be an interesting contest. Pulling for the Eagles. Best of luck to both teams.
  21. This one won't be pretty or close. Sheldon Clark is still way down and Derossett loves to kick people when they are down. I remember him saying in the paper one year that he hoped they could hit 100 against Betsy Lane or Allen Central. I don't think it will be that bad but could be ugly for sure. Good luck to both teams.
  22. What a horrible deed. We as a society are becoming more and more like Sodom and Gomorrah. I pray for the families of those lost and hope the responsible party gets punished accordingly for his actions in this life. I know he will when he stands before his maker.
  23. i would take the first game of the season with a grain of salt for anyone saying South Warren is going to cake walk through AAAA. A lot can happen from now till Nov. and we are not sure John Hardin is the team we all thought they would be. South could be the best team in the class, but 1 good game or one bad game in Aug. doesn't hold a lot of weight in my book. Could be an entertaining season in AAAA for sure though.
