Clock managment wins this one. If Sheldon Clark can hold on to the football and grind it out and limit Mason's possesions they will come away with a W. If Mason gets the football to much they will find ways to score and SC will be in trouble.

I took Russell in this one. Even though I think Belfry is the better of the two teams, I think Russell's offensive style will give Belfry's defense problems, but I'm not sure that Russell will be able to stop Belfry. Here is betting that an official will whistle Belfry's backs for early movment (they get out of those stances pretty quick) and that a couple turnovers are the diffrence. Russell: 31 Belfry: 28

Going to have to go with the Eagles in this one. Belfry is a good football team with 2 of the best backs in the area, but I'm afraid that won't be enough. I hope both come out and play well and this game is everything that the mountain community will build it up to be. In the end I'm going to say: Johnson Central: 35 Belfry: 17

Raceland has been playing great all season and is one of the top teams in A. Russell has struggled in recent weeks and do not seem to be the same Russell most of us have been customed to seeing, but make no mistake this is still Russell. They are still capable of taking the football and keeping it for a long time. If Russell can hang on to the football and keep Raceland's offense off the field they will have a chance to win it late. This one will be closer than most people think.

One of the weaker Belfry teams that I have seen in the past few years, and they completley dominated the Sheldon Clark Cardinals. Belfry's backs are as explosive as they come and you will see few if any backs hit the hole as hard as the do. I don't think Belfry is as good as years past, but they still might be the best AAA football team out there because of their backs.

With the way Ashland's season has went and the turn-around they have had they very well could be better suited for a physical brand of football, but I still think Matney is a coach that uses a diffrent kind of physical football than Ashland is used to. Matney runs the wishbone and uses alot of Belly, Veer, Option, power, and kickout plays. Most of the teams in Ashland's area play a more spread offense, or run the wing-t like Russell. It is a diffrent mind set when taking on teams that run right at you like JC. I do think that they have shown success at stopping a running attack like Central's in Ironton, but I haven't seen Ironton in years and don't know if they resemble the teams of old. Good luck to both teams, I hope it is a dandy.

I'm going to have to go with the Eagles in this one. Johnson Central is on a roll and I don't think the Tomcats are going to have enough to stop it. Matney always seems to play Ashland well and for some reason alot of times the Tomcats struggle against his physical brand of football. Russell is a football team that is drenched in tradition, but these Devils have seem to lost the way. They don't have that Russell mentality of I'd just assume hit you as look at you. Coaching will take Russell so far, but the kids have to win in October. Mason will always have some athletes that can make plays in space and will always be well coached. I'm taking the Royals in this one. Mason: 28 Russell: 14

Belfry is one of the elite football teams in the mountains. They have the type of program that every other team hopes of having some day. That being said I have a gut feeling that this season Sheldon Clark might just have Belfry's number. I don't know what it is about the Cardinals, but they have somthing that is hard to put into words. They took one on the chin at Log Mountain, but I still think that the Cardinals will win this tough, physcial football game. Sheldon Clark in a good one. Sheldon Clark: 26 Belfry: 17

Perry Central is a good team that has had some tough breaks this season. They have a couple of athletes that are big play people and can do some special things with space. I haven't seen Noth Laurel, but I am hoping for a Commodore win this Friday.
