A big thumbs-up to the Belfry Pirates!

Great game between two evenly matched teams. This was one of those games where no lead was safe and watching it kept you on your toes. It would be fun to watch these two play several more times.

 

I was impressed with Somerset and enjoyed seeing them lay it all on the line. They fell a little short, but they have nothing to hang their heads about, they played a great game. The Jumpers played very well on defense against Belfry, but gave up a few big plays at inopportune times. Belfry was able to capitalize on a couple of turnovers where Somerset couldn't turn their's into scores.

 

I am so proud of this young group of Pirates. From the beginning of the season to now, they have grown so much and improved more than any team I can remember. This coaching staff has really done a fantastic job of coaching too. I don't want to celebrate too much, we still have some work to do and a very tough opponent ahead of us. But I didn't want to let it go unsaid that this team really deserves a lot of praise for making it this far.

 

Also, it was a pleasure meeting AverageJoesGym and family. What a class act, he represents Somerset well and is a great guy as well as a knowlegeable football man. I really enjoyed talking football with him before the game and I hope he and the rest of the Briar Jumper fans have a safe trip home.

Congrats to Belfry.. I thought for sure the Jumpers would be to much.. Belfry has come a long way from the beginning of the year..

Thanks. For the record, I think Mason Co and Somerset would be a great matchup. They remind me a lot of each other.

Tusi, sorry I didn't get over to meet you. Joe said he spoke with you and that you were a great guy.

 

CAM was electric great place to see a HS game.

 

Jumpers and Pirates played an exciting game. Jumpers didn't capitalize on a couple of early turnovers and could have been up 21-0 instead just went up 7-0.

 

Very Proud of this team and these Seniors, especially my Senior. It has been a great 2 year run 27-2, nothing to hand your heads over.

 

Congrats Belfry and best of luck next week.

 

BTW....BEST opposing Radio Crew I have ever heard, very professional and unbiased in calling the game even though they were clearly for Belfry they do an excellant job!

Thats too bad, JD, I wanted to meet you too. I know it is tough to lose, especially as a senior, or a senior parent. But if you are going to lose, it should be in a game like that. You are right, the atmosphere was electric and the whole house was rocking, both sides. Kudos to Somerset for traveling that well with such an enthusiastic crowd. It really made for a great atmosphere.

 

27-2 is very special, this group of seniors for Somerset has really been a special group, haven't they? Man, they are athletic and talented and they have a lot of fight in them to go along with a never say die attitude. If last nights performance is any representation, I can only imagine how much fun they have been to watch. They absolutely have nothing to hang their heads over, they should be proud of their accomplishments and proud of their performance last night. Good luck to each of them moving forward in whatever they pursue.

 

As far as the game, if these two teams play 10 times, I say they split them 5-5. You never knew when the next big play was going to come from either team. All in all it was a great night of high school football. Somebody had to win and somebody had to lose, and no matter which team came out on top, I would say it was one of the best all around nights of high school football I'd experienced in a long time. Thanks to both teams for providing that for us old over the hill has beens.

Hey, I'm glad you were listening. That's why I made a point to mention that in the prediction thread. Bobby Norman and Coach Mickey do a super job of describing the action and they do it in a first class way. For a high school crew, they are tops in my book.

Did not think this Belfry team had what it took to make it to Bowling Green, but Haywood (and staff) has done his best coaching job in the last 10-15 years IMO. The last 3 times Belfry has played for a State Title you looked at the Pirates and were amazed at the size & athletes they put on the field. With this team you are amazed at the execution and the heart they play with. Congrads to the Pirates from this Sheldon Clark fan.
