Woo Hoo, I'm on cloud 9 this morning. Thanks LN, these kids deserve a ton of credit for how hard they've worked to get here. This is not the most talented Belfry squad to make the finals, but they have a ton of heart and they have grown more over the course of the season than any team I can recall.

 

I'm a very proud 2C, but not satisfied yet, I want them to buckle down and play the game of their lives next week and bring home #3.

Thats too bad, JD, I wanted to meet you too. I know it is tough to lose, especially as a senior, or a senior parent. But if you are going to lose, it should be in a game like that. You are right, the atmosphere was electric and the whole house was rocking, both sides. Kudos to Somerset for traveling that well with such an enthusiastic crowd. It really made for a great atmosphere.

 

27-2 is very special, this group of seniors for Somerset has really been a special group, haven't they? Man, they are athletic and talented and they have a lot of fight in them to go along with a never say die attitude. If last nights performance is any representation, I can only imagine how much fun they have been to watch. They absolutely have nothing to hang their heads over, they should be proud of their accomplishments and proud of their performance last night. Good luck to each of them moving forward in whatever they pursue.

 

As far as the game, if these two teams play 10 times, I say they split them 5-5. You never knew when the next big play was going to come from either team. All in all it was a great night of high school football. Somebody had to win and somebody had to lose, and no matter which team came out on top, I would say it was one of the best all around nights of high school football I'd experienced in a long time. Thanks to both teams for providing that for us old over the hill has beens.

Congrats to Belfry. They played a great game last night. It really was a game where a bounce here or there could have changed the whole outcome. Both teams played their hearts out and it was a shame one had to lose. I'd loved to have seen my Briar Jumpers back in Bowling Green but I'll definately be rooting for the Pirates now. Watusi, it was great to meet you, CAM is a great place to watch a game and the fans were great. It's been a long morning/afternoon trying to mend my son's hand and heart but he, like the rest of the Briar Jumpers left it all on the field last night. You boys have been a joy to watch and I'll miss all 19 seniors, as for the rest of the team. Spend the next couple of days healing and start getting ready for next season. You've got a lot of work to do.

I agree with this. I have hated to wanted to see the 19 seniors finish with a state title but it was not in the cards. Go Belfry!

I am surprised by the final. Did not think anyone was going to be able to play with the BJ's. Congratulations are in order to the Pirates, their fans, coaches and kids. What a tremendous accomplishment. Congratualtions are in order to Somerset's fans, kids, and coaches for a tremendous season.

 

Finally, congratualtions to both for the outstanding class you display. Both programs are Character champions. As a Ky HS football fan you both make me proud and no doubt have made your communities proud!

Congrats to Belfry! Big surprise...but the Pirates always play well at the end of the year.

Did not think this Belfry team had what it took to make it to Bowling Green, but Haywood (and staff) has done his best coaching job in the last 10-15 years IMO. The last 3 times Belfry has played for a State Title you looked at the Pirates and were amazed at the size & athletes they put on the field. With this team you are amazed at the execution and the heart they play with. Congrads to the Pirates from this Sheldon Clark fan.

 

Any coach of any sport could learn a lot from Coach Haywood and staff. As a youngster growing up and early in my adult life I questioned him a lot on things I thought I knew aabout. As you grow older you see and realize what a great job he does and what a great representative of Belfry he is.

Funny how much we realize we don't know when we grow up. :thumb:

 

Coach Haywood is a great mentor, a first class representative of our community, and a very good man. He happens to be a pretty good football coach too. Give him credit for putting together a great coaching staff as well.

 

This staff deserves a pat on the back for the job they've done this year.
