They clearly do things differently than our KHSAA. Here's a few lines that pop out to me. You do not have to sit out a year apparently, as it wasn't stated. You can change schools first, then look for a house later. Must be a low profile school too with the sons of Montana, Will Smith and Wayne Gretzky on the same FB team! Mods, hope this belongs here, I wasn't sure.

I agree, just from the X side. But the best part of the rivalry is when T or X loses to each other, they find it in themselves to cheer for their cross town rival in the next game. In all sports as well. I didn't do that as a student, but Catholic pride get stronger with age. :thumb:

Our school was quoted around $750,000, field only & track not included. We had to pass for now. Of course, they won't get any cheaper. Plus adding bleachers, track, etc is just a lot of money. As a "new startup" we had nothing but a flat field and lawn chairs for bleachers.

I'm not quickslick, but.... I follow college recruiting somewhat, and it's happening already. I know for a fact that OSU and ND have pulled schollies already. For example, they offer X number of schollies for the OL position, usually offering a few more than they have room for. Basically, they take first come, first serve for that position, unless you're just a flat out stud who you can wait for. Coaches tell the kids this usually, so the recruits need to figure things out and verbal, or risk losing their ride. As a ND fan, I know we have offered far more kids than we have spots for, about 4 times more. That's normal. ND just picked up a stud who was the 5th man out at OSU because 4 OL committed already. He thought they'd wait for him to decide, and he was wrong. He is a 4*/5* type recruit. Some schools (like UF) make "conditional offers", meaning if we don't get other higher rated commits by a certain date, then we'll take you. I think those are a little sleazy for my taste. UK is in this position as well, having an offer out to certain a TE, and they are full at TE, unless someone moves. My dad used to say, "Don't sit on the pot, unless you're going to (fill in the blank). I think that applies to this case. Sounds like he will still get a solid offer though, and I hope this all works out for him. It usually does.

I think it's almost irresponsible to not install turf anymore. Our new school site is only 1 year old, and they just installed grass, which in the long run cost more $$$ and time. They originally didn't install sprinklers, and were watering it with yard sprinklers, :lol: but I saw they put underground in a few weeks back. It just seems all "penny wise, pound foolish" to me. Not to mention schools with turf can hold more camps, state events, youth events, etc, making the school more profitable and attractive to future students, which in turn makes it more profitable. As a catholic school, we need to be profitable just to survive. Anyway, congrats on the new field. I'll stop my rant.

True ^ You don't want coaches in control of everything, I agree. That's like having a single political party control the Presidency, congress and the senate. May as well be a monarchy.

Actually our vacation was looking at colleges. Does that even count?!? In principle I agree. But seriously, I tried to limit my kids sports time once, cutting some club stuff out. It didn't work. She would just go out back in the yard, and put the time in there. She's just not the "hang out, chill out" kind of kid. She hangs out with teammates usually. She chooses sports over guys right now, though that may change any day. I honestly felt guilty trying to force her to do "nothing", which only made her miserable.

Sometimes the kids say they only want to play X position, and they don't want to switch positions, so that could have happened. There's a lot we don't know as fans that the coaches do. Sounds like a great kid!

They also had Deuce Finch committed to UK last night as well! :laugh: Just sayin....... That seems late though. Wish they could do it quicker. They should have most of the info they need already.

I had a harder time for some reason, and we only had a 5 day vaca that we used to look at colleges. I could only get off the first week of dead period. I have to put in my vaca request one year ahead of time, then it goes by seniority, where I have maybe 15 folks ahead of me. Two employees off per week max, 16th in seniority, dead period in middle of summer, you do the math. Although this was my first vaca in many years, so I'll take it. :thumb: Plus, we only had two weeks of training before dead period, and one week after, then we have tryouts. It's hard to get any continuity with our schedule this year. Last year was better. I vote for maybe it week to week, though it won't change and I won't lose sleep over it. The KY Derby moves dates every year, and we all seem to know when it will be every year - "The 1st Saturday in May".

That was awesome when a college recruiter was on air last year, saying the first stop they make when they come to Louisville is that person. :laugh: Even before seeing the players own coach, at a public or private, because they know he will speak the facts, and knows all the top city players well enough to do so. That is a great sign of respect.

Congrats UK!! I heard a radio interview a few months ago with his coach (Scroggins) and he was all but begging UofL to get into the picture, though he laughed when saying it. I took that to mean he would likely go to UofL when and if they offered. I obviously know nothing!

I think the future is bright for Manual. Being in the catholic system (for the most part) my whole life, I've seen the trend for catholic kids to attend Manual. My daughter's class alone had at least 5 attend Manual that I know of, out of roughly 60 kids, and others may have as well. Her best friend at Mercy has a little brother that will likely go to Manual, though he prefers X. With them it boils down to money, and the unlikely prospect of paying for 3 kids in catholic high school next year before the oldest graduates. They feel he'll get the same strong education as his older sisiters, and it will be free. Plus he likes it because his sisters have to work to pay half of their tuition, and he figures that money will go to a car now. :thumb: Manual has a strong academic tradition and it makes the decision to go there much easier for those raised in the catholic school system. Many of those students are also strong athletes as well.

I hope the local instate schools don't miss the boat on Tim. He'll be a machine in college, even if he is just my size.:lol: I'll love him even more after he quits running all over my Tigers. :thumb:

All this KHSAA nonsense won't change anything in a positive way. Business will still go on as usual, except now you'll get a lot of "No comments" from the folks.

You should politely tell your boss he does look stupid, it may save him/her from making a big mistake by knowing this tidbit. If your GF ask you that question, she already knows she looks fat in that dress, so why lie to her on top of it. Politely tell her the truth. Are you gonna tell your GF "no comment"? :lol: I can't believe this Hicks character, if what daybyday says is true. Private workouts for stars only?!? Lunch in coaches office?!? Lunch delievered by coach?!? Is this the wa it is today? No wonder half these players are head cases when they leave school.

That' what wrong with sports. You admit it was intentional, say the punishment was correct, unless he had a full schollie. Then you would have given him a break. That's why athletes think they can get away with murder! If it were my own kid who did that, I would still want them kicked off their college team, schollie or walkon. We need to quit treating these kids like prima donas.

On KY vs IN, I saw a stat somewhere (don't feel like looking for it) and basically there were about 4 times the number of high schools in Indiana, so I assume it's a population thing at that point. I'm sure Florida looks at In and wonders why they are so slow..... Bottom line, everyone needs to just do their best, no matter where they are.

I agree on the call to forfeit as well. If they play all summer that way, it's not realistic to expect your kids to lose the helmets for one or two games of one weekend. You're setting yourself up for injury, for an event that means virtually nothing. Honestly, it's kinda hard to believe they at least don't carry their helmets with them, just in case. Like riding a motercycle across country, ya never know what the rules are from state to state. The team from Bowie is traveling all summer playing in these tournaments. They'll play nearly every weekend. I still think they would win vs St X, since that's not the strong point of the local teams.

Bolded above ^ I wasn't there, but FYI - if you are referring to the turf field by McDonalds, then that is the field hockey field. If referring to the field by the track facilites, then that is the soccer field.

When you say the "bunting game", how many bunts are you talking about? I was going to the X-Cal game, but in my 'arrogance' I didn't thinking I'd catch the next game!

Is there any info yet regarding how the coaching change will affect X this season? Talk around the water cooler suggested more kids would tryout now, when previously they would not for one reason or another.

That English Station campus is very nice. There is a field for every sport. So a football, soccer and a field hockey game can all be played at the same time. I think Male is the only other school like that. The private schools generally have one nice field that all sports share. BTW, CAL's coach is a St X grad. :irked:

That depends on who you're cheering for. He freaks me out every time he gets the ball. I hold my breath every time. Thank the lord he is so fast that I don't have to hold it long when he runs down the field. Tim was also 2nd in the 200 and helped T win the 400 relay. Go Tigers!
