  1. The governor of Missouri is the most incompetent person involved in this whole mess. Looks up comments or interviews with his Lt. Governor, who apparently hasn't been able to speak with the guy in about FIVE years! Like most lawyers, the governor surrounds himself with only other lawyers in his inner circle, excluding all others, (his own posse), it's a very strange way to run a state. I was there when this all started, and my daughter is minutes from this whole situation. Up until a few nights ago, she was hearing 10-20 gunshots a night, and those weren't from the cops I am assured. She naively took one position, cops are racists, but I told her to just chill out, stay away from the protests if you can, and wait for the truth to come out. I saw it looked bad but life experience has shown me whatever the media puts out is generally about 50% fictitious. The Richard Jewell story was 100% made up by the Atlanta Constitutional Journal, with no basis at all other than a hunch by a reporter. He probably works at MSNBC now. SO I gave her a few cases to look at (Richard Jewell, Duke LAX, Tawanna Brawley, etc), who all had strong witness statements. I told her about my one and only law class in 1984, when an instructor had a man run in and grab his briefcase off the desk in front of 100+ students. In the end as we described what we saw, we could not even get the race of the perp correct, a damning statement for "eye witness" accounts, which was his point. Sadly I was there in part to celebrate a memorial of her friend, who was murdered there just two years earlier, on August 18 2012. They were athletes together at SLU and their team profile pics look nearly identical, meaning it could easily have been my daughter. She was targeted because she was a "white woman", which was the M.O. of the young killer. Many other victims came out as well, all white women, they were just not murdered because they did not fight back. Race tensions are generally high in St Louis I think, though her murder (in the streets as she sat in her car on the phone with her mom) caused the nation to hardly bat an eye. I don't think the town itself even cared, as if it were normal. So you don't think I am making this up, her name is Megan Boken. Google her and you will essentially know what my own daughter looks like as well. I reminded my kid that Sunday night, before she did any protesting (the desire to do so she has picked up from her teachers), I just told her to remember that she is the enemy there, even if she agrees with their view. She is a target as the other killer said of Megan Boken. I am doubly sad now that Megan's death meant nothing to anyone, not a person in this thread even knew or cared about her, and she was a girl who did everything the right way. However, now a young violent man in the same town will essentially be a hero through the rest of time. What a messed up world we live in. The truth as we know it today is nothing like it was the day she and I were "accosted" in her dorm parking lot by a protester wanting money "for the cause".
  2. I would assume they are irritated by the whole thing more than being edgy. As a former racer, this wasn't his fault, regardless of his history or him being a jerk, which I agree with. I assumed from day one the kid tried to slap the wing as he drove by to enhance his career as "going after Tony Stewart", it's the closest thing he can hit as the car goes by. Theoretically it's the safest thing to hit, if he had done it correctly. I think Tony should move on, the longer it goes on will make things fester longer. Everyone involved in accidents move on at some point, it's silly to thing they will quit working, or doing what the they doing, when the accident happened. I saw a guy die when I was racing boats and a driver replaced him 2 weeks later and were back to racing, it's part of the job.
  3. 1. Mercy Academy 2. St X 3. If those are out of it, then any other Louisville catholic school.
  4. I have given rewards, but not of the petty cash variety, not very often, and not for simple things. Never money, only special, meaningfull things. In second grade, I told her I would buy her a new car when she turned 16, if she had straight A's from then (2nd grade) until she turned 16. She got her 1st "B" ever as a freshmen (missed an "A" by .03), so that new car is history. But she'll get a used one since I need a car anyway. I only have a work truck which she can't larn to drive on. In 7th grade, I bet her a Ruth's Chris dinner if she got a scholarship in high school. She did (3rd highest scorer) and we enjoyed our steaks very much thank you. We have made the same bet if she gets accepted into Notre Dame, or a full academic scholarship anywhere. Honestly, I used to hate this idea, but it's how the kids are rewarded in the real world anyway. May as well get them used to it. I just make them very hard to earn and very special.
  5. I just think a child has a lot more to offer the world than an adult. I'd give my life for your child, let alone mine. Parents should be willing to make sacrifices. If my wife chose her life over her child, I'd end up losing both cause she wouldn't be my wife much longer.
  6. I'd tell my wife that I love her, and that I will take care of our child very well after she is gone. I'm sure she would concur.
  7. Again, I don't want to trample on others rights here, but they just don't interest me, and it's not an issue I would fight for. I don't think the framers had today's weapons in mind 200+ years ago. It's mostly the assault rifle issue that bothers me. I don't think think everyone needs to have them, and I don't think the gun industry polices itself enough, which leads to extra scrutiny. Having said all that, it is no RUMOR that Obama wants guns gone. I saw the video. He said it himself. I'm not sure how you can spin it any other way.
  8. There was a lot more than just records, but that's all folks look at for some reason. In random order, here are a few of my memories: -It was his negative demeanor to the fans and the press for one. He also liked to throw his players under the bus in front of the media every time something went wrong. He flat out does no accept responsibilty, one thing Weis does very often. See the scout.com UW board, since he still does the same thing. -Before he was fired, he admitted he was looking at the Washington job already, which violated his contract requirement to involve the AD in any talks. That was probably the straw that broke the camels back. -Then there was his comment basically saying he was satisfied with a 6-5 record because "it was a winning record the last time I looked." (Rule #1, any coach who says that should be fired). Not what any fanbase wants to hear. -Then there's the OL recruiting issue. He didn't recruit many, only 3 his last two years, none of which are still there. To go along with the 9 WR's?!? You need more OL than that, and less WR's. That a formula for disaster. Weis lived off Bob Davie recruits his first season, and doesn't haven't those upperclassmen now. Weis needs to improve his OL and DL recruiting success as well, but at least he is trying. OL is a huge issue right now. -No BCS bowls, vs 2 for Weis. Even in two big losses, the OSU came was close until 4 minutes to go, not the blowout of epic proportions anti-fans have made it out to be. That bowl money mostly went to academic buildings at ND, not just disappearing in the athletic budget like at most schools. -Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. Analyst said he is the laziest recruiter. He only pursued 5* players, and had no backup plan if they missed. Which they often did. He didn't want Brady Quinn (recruited by another recruits dad) and didn't think Jeff Samardzija could play. Best QB and WR in ND history. He basically took his last year totally off, ad Weis only had a few weeks due to being in the Super Bowl, so that class is/was very bad. - 1991 national champions. Rick Neuheisel recruited just fine. But it is hard to recruit to any northern school, of which ND is one as well. Players want to be where it's warm these days. Ty has come into good situations at Stanford, Washington and ND, with solid recruits in place. All three went steadily downhill after his arrival. ND misses out on 30% of recruits right off the bat just due to academic requirements. Lou Holtz slightly lessened these requirments ( a handfull of exceptions), and Weis refuses to pursue this tactic, as he and the University should. South Bend isn't the greatest town to wow recruits with, and the weather is 10 times worse than Chicago. They don't take many visits in the winter, which is brutal. Plus, ND won't redshirt unless you get hurt or pursue a masters degree, then get accepted by graduate school. Last year, several players were not accepted by grad school and could not play any longer. Even if hurt and eligible for 5th year, you must have graduated in four years. A lot of players want 5 years to get their four, and those players are generally better due to weight training. Most players have no interest in being forced to graduate in 4 years or less. ND puts their athletes on a 3.5 years schedule. In addition, their code of conduct is a signed and binding agreement, unlike 98% of schools. Infractions that cost you a few games will get you kicked out at ND. Disadvantage ND in terms of recruiting (kids generally don't like harsh rules) but andvantage in terms of it's mission. Here is an article that sums it up I believe. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/65809-willinghams-scorched-earth-aftermath-of-bad-recruiting-classes-for-uw To answer the OP's question though, I want him to have more time. I even wanted Ty to have more time, until I saw a lot of what came out afterward. Weis does a lot of great things, except needs to improve the win-loss record. This was his first job, which is not his fault. It was ND's fault to give it to him. I've seen a lot of very humble remarks from Wies come out of South Bend in the last month. But the only ones that go national are the ones where he is cocky, arrogant, or obnoxious. He's accepts all responsibilty for the issues, says fans should be wigging out, and has made many changes looking for solutions. Weis also stated he was taking over playcalling this week since his OC will misses several days due to a death in the family, but no ones reports that part. They only assume he is disrespecting the OC. Most fans want the OC gone anyway, but it would be politically incorrect to fire him, plus Weis is loyal to his staff, and has fired very few. Until the line problems are solved, ND will continue to struggle. The true freshmen and sophomore line players are just getting beat too much, and the junior class was depleted by injuries, grades and defections. The senior class is non existant since Ty started it (barely) and Weis finsihed it. There was no continuity and most of those players left the program or just aren't good.
  9. I don't want a copy, but you tell us how to do it? I assume I could play it and record it on VCR, but I was hoping to get it to CD instead.
  10. They are all relatively close to each other, except maybe Desales and definately Holy Cross. There aren't as many parochial schools in the far south end where Holy Cross is located, so a small pool to draw from. Mercy - South East ish Assumption - East (Highlands, 3 miles from Mercy) Sacred Heart - Further East (near St mathews) Presentation - Down Town Trinity - East (St Mathews, a mile from Sacred Heart) St X - Centrally located, bordering East and South (I consider Poplar Level Road the line seperating the two), 6-7 miles from Trinity Holy Cross - South End (farthest away from the rest) Desales - South End, but a little more centrally located.
  11. Changed my mind, might be a bit much.
  12. My thoughts exactly. Okay. Why didn't someone tell me the online versions can get a little vulgar? I'm sitting here watching it, thinking it's like the ones on TV. Then comes the part where the "F" word gets used about 10 times in 10 seconds. By the time I get to the computer, it's too late.
  13. I'm anti-gun more or less, but I wouldn't want to take them away from folks. I just don't like to see them so prevalent in society, and I'm not so attached to the 2nd ammendment as others are. There's a funny clip I saw somewhere on this topic. Obama speaking to a crowd, says something to the effect (I'm very closely paraphrasing here) "Yes, I want to take your guns away. But I won't have the votes!" He was smiling, but I believe he is sincere. And he is very close I believe to getting those votes, depending on what happens in the next 2 year elections.
  14. Funny. My daughter was deeply disappointed it was in Louisville. A few years ago, Mercy all but shut down and 99% of the student body (minus a few buzzkills) rented busses to go on a road trip for the state tourney. They by far had the best turnout that year. And a pretty good one this year too!
  15. I recommend tailgaiting, or just getting there earlier. I know I need a good two hour headstart just to get in by kickoff for X vs T.
