Round 3 allowed the singers to choose their favorite song and they were allowed to choose a song that they had already sung.

David Cook a song he hadn't sung before in Collective Soul's The World I Know while David Archuleta predictably went with John Lennon's Imagine. Cook was very good but Archuleta's Imagine was a one of the best performances of the season when he sang it previously. Better song choice by Archuleta. He takes Round 3 10-9 and the fight 29-28.

That being said I can't stand Archuleta's stiff stage presence, his twin annoying habits of licking his lips every 10 seconds and singing with his eyes closed and his porkpie hat wearing nightmare of a stage dad so I'm voting for David Cook anyway. Archuleta may be the better singer and may very well win this competition but I think Cook will end up being a star.

And that's what's wrong with American Idol now, voters are now voting for who they want instead of who was the best singer which is clearly David Archuletta. I hope American Idol changes the system or something.

I don't think it is always just about the best pure singer. To me it should be about the best performer. I think that is clearly Cook. Who's album are you more likely to buy? Who are you more likely to pay money to see perform? It isn't just a voice competition, its a talent competition. When it comes to voice Archuleta is better but he's not nearly the performer that Cook is.

Maybe so, but to hear Simon and them talk about it they always state this is a singing competition. It doesn't matter to me who wins, but with Archuletta he'll get all the teen girl votes I mean I believe the only TRUE American Idol was the first 3 seasons. Since then it's more about other stuff.

I don't know, season 4's Carrie Underwood is pretty good. I think she was clearly the best that season. As for just being a singing competition I think that has gone by the wayside. Why else would they let the contestants play instruments this season? It is a talent competition and Cook has more musical talent than Archuleta.

I meant to put her in there..

If you remember when the Jamacan lookin dude brought a guitar out the first time they said he shouldn't have because of something. Who knows...

It's intended to be one thing...a singing competition. In reality, it's a lot about popularity. That's how Taylor Hicks won. He was the better performer. As for the instruments, they just threw that element in to freshen things up this season. But it's still about the voice -- at least as far as the three judges are concerned.

How about Simon's quote about David Cook in which he said as long as this remains a talent competition you might actually win? If they just wanted to freshen it up they would pick mentors that aren't eligible for the senior discount at the local theater. The instruments are there for one reason--to demonstrate their musical ability. It isn't called America's Best Singer, it is called American Idol. Part of being an American Idol, or just a superstar in general is making people want to watch you. Being an entertainer is a big part of that.

Archie is so boring. He does have a good voice but he doesn't have the complete package (singing and performing). He just stands there, closes his eyes, licks his lips and sings. Cook is a much better performer and is more exciting to watch. Cook can sing several different types of songs unlike Archie who is stuck in the boring mode. Cook has a much brighter future in the music/entertainment world. However, Archie will probably win because of his teenie bopper followers. Wish both of them the best.

I don't think I could possibly care less. I have no idea who won or if someone has won. But my guess is that more Americans could name you the participants on American Idol than who their state senators and representatives are or even who the Vice-President is.

If you don't care, why would you possibly even open the thread, much less respond?

Some people may be more likely to know the players for the New York Yankees, the authors of their favorite books or who is on which side of the road in the BGP political forum. I'm a follower of politics, too, but that doesn't mean that everyone has to be. In many cases (most actually), entertainers give us more hope then any of our elected officials. Music refreshes and revives the soul.

The lack of name recall for the persons you listed exist because the American Idol contestants have not spent our tax dollars on their favorite escort service.:D

Also, for someone who could care less, why would you take time to read and then post?

Exactly! Doesn't it drive you nuts when someone feels like they have to take the time to trash something they don't care for?
