I remember Hicks' last game at Corbin very well. Corbin pulled out to a big lead(20+ points) against the underdog Jackson Co. team. It looked like Corbin would win by 40 or more. The Hounds became careless and got into some foul difficulty and the Generals crept back into the game. The depleted Hounds fell in triple OT. I remember seeing Bobby Keith and other Clay Co. faithfuls cheering vociferously for the Generals. Corbin was one of the top teams in the state and Clay wanted no part of that Redhound team, even in Manchester. Corbin may well have played for the state title that year had this game gone the other way. Most all of Corbin's key players had fouled out by the 3rd OT.

Hicks said that, although he's looking forward to the game, he wishes the two teams were meeting in the title game rather than the opening round.

I don't know if this has been debated on here or not, but what about seeding the Sweet 16 teams rather than having a blind draw? It seems like there is usually one bracket, as is the case this year, which is loaded with the top teams in the field. More often than not, this seems to be the case. Who would be in favor of using some computer system of seeding the 16 teams that advance to Rupp Arena? Maybe use a combination of several of the models already used(Cantrell, LIT, BGP, Massey, and others). Scott County and Ballard may play in this year's tourney, but it won't be in the championship. That would be a heck of a title game. Does anyone know if the idea of seeding has ever been discussed? I'm not even necessarily saying that I would favor such an idea, but it would eliminate the possibility of all the top teams squaring off in the first couple of rounds. Maybe a far-fetched idea, but what do you think?

For the second year in a row, Corbin plays one of the favorites to win it all. Last year, they drew Eastern. Hounds played Scott Co. in Manchester earlier in the year and lost by 11. The game was very close until the Cards pulled away with a 17-2 run late. This game will pit Corbin's coach, Tony Pietrowski, who just obtained his 200th win, against his high school coach, Billy Hicks. Pietrowski took over the Corbin job after the departure of former UK Quarterback, Mike Deaton, who had replaced Hicks.

Hounds win this one with excellent defense. Clay slowed the tempo but had trouble scoring the ball.

Wright not relieved to have drawn opposite Clay... funny stuff, that is. South has the two best teams in the bracket opposite them. Those two teams have handed South four losses this year, two on their home court. Yes, I'd say South likes that draw.
