Will there be high school football this fall?

Featured Replies

Total speculation...Start football workouts Aug 1. Eliminate first 2 weeks of season. Pick up your schedule week 3...Playoffs ect happen as usual.

Even with a vaccine people will still get the corona. Eventually we have to decide to stop living in fear and move on.

So now that Julian Tackett has said to not expect football to start in early July, what does everything we're looking at? Anyone hearing any rumors?

Can you give us the quote?

Can you give us the quote?

"We're hopeful that we can have some championship play in the fall, but I wouldn't count on us starting on time"

“Those are definitely person-touching-person-all-the-time sports,” Tackett said. “So the health people are going to be involved. … Coaches are probably not going to have much say-so this year. Maybe we can get back to normal a year from now.”

Thank you both.

“ What we can’t do is lose football and basketball, not without other drastic action,” he said.”

That line made me hopeful.

Just like colleges and universities around the country all the sports higher ups are going to do everything in their power to have a season because if they don't their budget will likely be destroyed, and the quote above suggest that. Once places start to gradually open up I think will be an indicator of what will happen come June and July.

KHSAA received money from paycheck protection program so that has helped them. Football doesn’t get played they will have to make serious cuts.

As much as I have wanted a slow reopening, I have a hard time seeing football being delayed, despite the quote.

KHSAA commissioner Julian Tackett just to the Courier Journal when asked about fall sports " I wouldn't count on us starting on time".

I just saw on the news that the IHSAA announced Indiana fall HS sports are back on schedule beginning July 1. That sounds encouraging but IN & KY haven’t agreed on many of the social distancing issues.

If youth sports are allowed to start back up June 15th, I would assume high school sports will be too.

They haven’t said which sports. Just that it would be sports that were outdoors and would inherently be able to maintain social distancing. Individual sports will be the first ones back. It’s impossible to social distance in football. If this initial opening goes well, I would think we will see football, but with a late start. Until the social distancing mandate goes away, I would say contact sports/sports with lots of physical contact won’t be starting.

I was about to mention the same thing.

I would think conditioning could be allowed but non contact.
