I agree. The way I’m interpreting some of the post on here is that if we were to compare the All A Classic State tournament to the football state tournaments the only one that would count as a state tournament champ would be the 6A winner.

Except that 1A-6A is how we do football in KY. If you want your tournament championship to be an actual state championship then classify basketball and it can be.

Otherwise it is an impressive tournament championship, but currently KY only has 1 state championship in basketball.

You are obviously a football person. No thanks......having 6 classes for football in this State is downright silly. Basketball is just fine as is, including the All A and AA. Believe it or not, I have known several kids to get a lot of college attention, and even offers due to their play in the All A “State” Tournament. I know a girl that is currently playing D1 basketball, that started to get her first interest from college coaches that saw her play for first time in the All A “State” Tournament.

All I'm saying is that if it isn't officially a KHSAA championship then it isn't a state championship. I don't like 6 classes, I liked 4.

If you want a small school state title then classify it, if you want to hold this mythical ideal of the Sweet 16 up to be this paragon of sports then don't try to cheapen it by saying that another tournament is also a state championship then go right ahead.

Call it All A Champs, All A Tournament Champs, just don't call it a state title because the only ones who bestow those in KY are the folks at the KHSAA.

I would like to see a list all of the teams since the All A started that competed in the All A and won a Sweet 16 regional and/or state championship.

In the 1st region the only 2 schools to win both regionals in the same year was Carlisle County in 2004 and Murray in 2016.

Since the All A started in 1990 the only All A schools to win a regional title was Mayfield in 1992, Carlisle County in 2001 and 2004 and Murray in 2016.

In region 1 it is hard to win the regional. That is why the All A is so important to the schools that participate.

So long as it is prefaced with "All "A" ", as in All "A" State Championship, which clearly defines the difference between the All "A" statewide tournament championship and the KHSAA Sweet 16 State Tournament, what is the issue????

It isn't a state championship, it is a tournament championship. A very good and competitive tournament that, in a classified system, could be a foundation for a small division state title. But if it isn't the KHSAA championship then it isn't a state championship.

I believe the majority of ones that have a problem with it support schools that don’t participate in it. If they were involved with it on annual basis they would see the importance and why it is called an All A state championship.

Yeah, but to be honest, I think most of the All A naysayers aren’t just against it being called a “state championship”, they are just against the All A in general.

Nothing but semantics. Whether it is officially a KHSAA state title or not doesn't matter. The fact is in reality it is a state wide championship tournament for small schools and the winner is the state wide small school champion.

One is the KHSAA state championship, the other is the All A Classic State Championship. But they’re both statewide tournaments, not invitationals. They both have regional tournaments and state tournaments. The only difference is they’re run and sponsored by different organizations. The fact that the All A Classic State Tournament is not run by the KHSAA doesn’t diminish it’s status as a state tournament in the least.

My school was runner-up to University Heights in the 1990 All A State Tournament, held at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, and we proudly put a banner up in our gym to celebrate it. Also had a row of cars a couple miles long that met our bus at the county line as it came back from Lexington and followed the police and fire truck escort back to the school. That sort of thing doesn’t occur at our school if we win an invitational tournament. Of course, we were only runner-up but it was still a big deal to our community. And on a side note, although we were only runner-up, we had the MVP of the tournament that year in Jeff “Moose” Moore, who still holds several Class A state scoring records. That tournament enabled him to be a 1st team All State player that year and go on to a nice college career at a school in Florida.

I'm not against it at all, I am just a stickler for accurate terminology.

So you are saying that Kentucky crowns more than one state champion im basketball? Sort of undoes the mythos of the Sweet 16 and our "One State Champ" mindset doesn't it?
