Dlbdonn Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Cincy's Ch 9 Dennis Jansen just announced that Brossart will start a football program . Maybe have a JV program as early as next year. Comments?
UKMustangFan Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Heard about it earlier today, and am really excited about next year. This should increase Brossart's enrollment considerably....
All Play No Work Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Brossart has been comtemplating this for awhile and the board finally gave the go-ahead with conditions like coming up with the funding, a coach, etc. which shouldn't be major obstacles. Two thoughts seem to have dominated the debate. 1. Football is a natural progression for a school that has been successful in other sports and would like to offer another activity that will be greatly supported by student participants and fans. 2. Football is a risky step because it tends to over-shadow and consume other sports and activities to the point that those entities suffer especially in a Class A size school. Of course, some people may be leaning one way or another on the issue but no one really has the definitive answer.
OldCamelNewBird Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 It seems as though they have lots of great athletes. As long as they don't pull most of the athletes from other sports, they should put together a pretty good team. They might even be able to compete at the varsity level in a few years.
oldcat94 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Be patient Mustang fans, watch Pendleton County's growing pains and be prepared, just don't expect success overnight
buckman41ss Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Perfect job for former coach at Dayton Dan Ridder to start the program..congrats Stangs on taking this on. :thumb:
buckman41ss Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I think right around 400..boys and girls.
westsider Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 If Brossart wants to make a splash and get some instant credibility, there's a pretty good coach on the market ... some dude named Mike Yeagle.
cshs81 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I think right around 400..boys and girls. Where would they play? Campbell County Middle School?
buckman41ss Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 They may go to an area around St Mary's soccer field is what im guessing.
Sandman32 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 They may go to an area around St Mary's soccer field is what im guessing. I would think that an arrangement with CC would not be out of the question. This is awesome news by the way! Glad to hear it Mustangs!
leatherneck Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I've got a feeling that NCC fans aren't all that happy about it. The Breds have pulled in a lot of the county kids wanting to play football. With the Mustangs starting a program, in time those county kids may stay out in the county.
Jim Schue Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 The way they produce bruisers in basketball, they should be OK once it gets up and running.

I believe the effect on NCC and Campbell County would be very slight. You pretty much are going to NCC since birth and the cost of going to Brossart over Campbell County would still be a factor. When Holy Cross started football it had a very slight effect on CovCath and Holmes. Brossart is a large enough school to produce decent numbers for football and of course starting a football program will have a direct effect on their soccer program (again see Holy Cross) since that sport is the same season as football and an indirect effect on basketball as it does at many Class A schools.
