Sure, execution and playcalling could improve, but it's not as bad as you want it to be. Dixie is a middle of the road team, and if Bill Bellicheck was designing the defense and Chip Kelly calling the offense they would have lost to both teams. Coaching isn't the issue. Its not x's and o's, it's jimmies and joes. Dixie doesn't have them.

I remember a coach had a rule that 1 missed practice was 1 missed half, until his star player was committed to showing animals at the state fair. The rule changed! Same thing, if they can contribute to your team but can't make every practice because of REAL familial obligations, I say let 'em!

I often wonder if these rules change every few years to try and force schools to purchase new uniforms. It seems like every few years there is one small change that all of a sudden could be a big deal.

At this point I would be in favor of a committee deciding playoff pairings. I would think between KHSAA employees, a few former retired coaches, and even some school administrators you could figure this out. Make some big deal out of it if you want. Saturday after the season is selection Saturday. Teams learn their fate. No way it could be worse than the current system we have.
