The Holmes Bulldogs travel to Boone County for the season opener.  The Rebels strength will be the front 7 on defense.  The secondary struggled to cover/tackle in the scrimmage against Campbell County on Friday.

 

Holmes has a new coach this season and an easier schedule with opting out of district play.  Can the Bulldogs break the long losing streak or will the Rebels win on Senior Night?

Senior night for the first game, may as well do a bundle and have home coming as well..

Senior night in week 1??? Never heard of such a thing and that's just weird to me. Boone must really be counting on this to be a W. Would love to see Holmes break their losing streak but I don't see Boone losing on "Senior Night".

Maybe I shouldn’t have put the “Senior Night” part in my post since that seems to be the only thing people are concerned about.

Is that not kind of weird in week 1?

A lot of schools are doing Senior Night earlier in the season. Winter sports, especially.

But by all means it's a good post, don't second guess it. Senior Night is always extra motivation for the home team.

I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I noticed some doing it in basketball during the last week instead of the last home game but didn't catch any during the first week.

More common than you think. Makes sense to me for all the reasons.

Guaranteed better crowd for the first home game with better weather + the excitement of a new season. Warmer weather = more of those elderly family members more likely to come out than when it's all things late October, early November. 

Takes away the risk from those awkward hand shakes/hugs from coach to parent(s) of senior(s) that haven't played as much and/or the position(s) that Mommy & Daddy think Johnny should have been out. That's what's always been weird to me. 

Never understood why more don't do it the "college" way. Senior player announced, runs through tunnel of teammates where head coach/coaches are there to have their moment & then senior runs out to meet parents where they make their walk & have THEIR moment, as a family.

I would venture to guess there is also a Covid hangover effect too. Get it in when you KNOW you have a game.

This isn’t senior night. Senior night is knowing this is your last time playing on that field/court. That’s the motivation imo. Senior night on opening night is just extra distraction. 

Boone Co looks to be the stronger team regardless of motivation or distraction.

That's what I thought. I thought it was suppose to have some type of sentimental value about your last time playing at home. But as @Pi stated COVID did change alot of norms.

It was going before Covid to be honest, especially in some other states, but here, too.  However I’m sure that played a part in its growth, as well.

I think it makes all the sense in the world + puts a whole different vibe to “Senior Night” for all involved. 

Here are the real questions of this game, though:

1) Is Holmes still rocking the Georgia look from head to toe?

2) Will Boone County ever sport the gray helmets w/ “Rebels” on the side + the gray pants & navy/carolina stripes, again?
