Adair was 6-4. and a #3 seed. From a Tilghman fan quote " Tilghman was the better team but Tilghman also literally had the ball bounce its way a few times such as the opening TD when a fumble literally bounced in mid-air to Starks, who ran it in. PT also ran a put back and I think they had a pick 6. This could have ended up 80 to nothing. In the end, Tilghman's speed won the night. Adair never quit, just was not their night and the numbers eventually wore them down. Tilghman is still giving up too much ground yardage on sweeps and off tackle. Adair had a kid with over 100 yards rushing."

If Raceland was in a district with Newport Catholic, LCA, and Farview you wouldn't be on your high horse about 4 seeds right now.

Here is a couple of factors people in education have to consider. Special education and socioeconomic background. School A with 500 boys 50 are in special education; 200 are living in poverty on free or reduced lunch. School B with 500 boys 25 are in special education; 100 are on free or reduced lunch. Which school wins? Are they on an even playing field? 2 more schools. Team 1 is a school with 300 boys and every student lives in town within 5 miles of school. Team 2 is a school with 300 boys and 150 of them live within 5 miles of school, but 150 of them live from 10-20 miles from school. Which school wins? Are they on an even playing field?

I feel bad for the kids at GRC that they live in a county where they have to pay for petty decisions of the superintendant. Something tells me coach Columbia wouldn't be 0-9. Something also tells me he feels bad for these kids.

The fact is these 2 athletes are very similar in their skill set. Either would do just as well switching teams with Timmons at Trinity and Quick at Franklin. Trinity fans need to realize that Timmons is a freak in speed and quickness regardless of Francklin's schedule. Francklin's fans need to realize showing highlights of Timmons going 50 yards untouched against a team who had no run force defender even lined up on that side of the field doesn't mean much. Showing wide open catches with no defender in the frame, or 3 guys missing arm tackles because of terrible technique is equally useless. Mr.Football is voted on by media in this state. Pre-season hype is a factor because the media basically watch their local teams just like you do. Hype-hoopla-name recognition and stats are sometimes more important than talent in Mr.Football races.

That is one thing I don't like about today's kids mentality. There are 8 games on the schedule not against Highlands and Cov Cath. They are letting those 2 teams carry over to other games on the schedule that they could be winning.

Julian in his infinite wisdom is going to let them play in 3a for 2 more years. I know some of the coaches down in that district and schedules have been set for 2 more years.

I'll take South Warren as well. They have more kids in school than 5a Warren Central and have a very solid coaching staff.

The word I like best in there is preparation. You have to build more than just 1 team or hope you win the genetic lottery with a few studs in 1 class. You have to build a program that prepares kids to succeed. A kid who comes up in a program learns to block and tackle, learns some mental toughness, picks up some football IQ, realizes it takes work to succeed, and has confidence that good habits in these areas will lead to wins. The parents and admin need to demand it and realize it is a multi-year building process that takes some time, money and commitment from more than the head coach and players.

I'd never want to see anyone drop football. I'd like to see some consideration where the success of a program is considered in classification. I have heard that this is being looked at. If Greenup and some of the other struggling programs were playing each other all the time there would be a better chance to pull out of the losing cycle. It would be nice to see the top teams with numbers, tradition, and trophies all playing each other as well.
