A point about the "too many teams in the playoffs" argument...

Featured Replies

In all the time of 6 classes, I have NEVER seen a poster get on here or the other major discussion boards and post something along the lines of, "Man, we're going to take a beat down this Friday...I wish we weren't even playing this game." In fact, it seems that every team that is going to be subjected to a blowout (and Warren East has been on this end of the stick before) looks forward to playing a top tier opponent in the playoff atmosphere.

...so can we just skip all the posters who represent the better half of things posts about "too many teams", "too many classes", and "too many blowouts"? Just quit griping and enjoy the extra weeks of football (i.e. too many teams make the playoffs), extra state championships (i.e. too many classes), and extra chances to make plays (i.e. too many blowouts).

Do you really want basketball to get here sooner? :idunno:

I don't think it's got anything to do with "too many teams". It's the quality of the playoff games that I hate. If we had everyone get in and the competition be better, I'd be all for it.

No doubt......wasted week for the most part.

What about seeding the playoffs and giving top 4 teams in each class a bye. Then the other games could be closer

It'd be better than what we have now. theguru has a unique idea on the playoff system I hope he'll share.

How is a week of football ever a "wasted week"? Would you prefer to watch early basketball in a gym with 25 other parents? Or if not that, then what would you rather see than these blowout games? It's either less games or just deal with the blowouts and understand that those getting blownout would rather be being blowout than having had to put up their equipment a week earlier.

It has nothing to do with "where would you rather be?" That's not the point at all. It's just that some think that the playoff system should reward teams for their seasons by making the playoffs in the first place. Or at least I think they should. IF you look past the first week, the playoffs are solid for the most part, agree? And if you agree, then doesn't that seem like a feasible fix?

I'm realizing its a wasted cause... Let em watch baseball for 6 months and basketball on every night of the week... This site has two breeds. Football lovers and others... Football lovers don't complain about more football.

My team is one of those that doesn't get to play next week. We've been blown out and held scoreless in multiple games. However, our kids and our parents would definitely be happy to play again next week.

#4 seed Montgomery county beat #1seed cooper last year in the first round...anything can happen on any given night

These extra games are great especially if you have had to miss at least one this season....which I have! My son is just a freshman but I would not give anything to miss a chance to see him dress one more week and the senior kids and parents, I am betting, feel the same way. When my older two graduated I felt lost on Friday nights for a while....maybe its just me but I live to love FRIDAY nights!!!!

i do like the idea of those who earn it give them a first round bye!! But in that same breathe its good to keep your team fine tuned and running well and not a week down!!! Fuel for thought....

These threads show who the competitors are and who the front runners are. Most of America today doesn't enjoy, embrace, or understand competition.

And that makes it worth it. Has there ever been a year when no #4 seeds win?

For some that has nothing to do with it. Only want a better brand of playoff football. Let me throw this one out there. We clamor on about how KY doesn't get the respect for our football. How does the watered down playoff system help that image?
