  1. My bumper sticker reads: "My 2 favorite teams are HHS and whoever is playing CovCath"........but in small print there is "except if the team is from Ohio!"
  2. ok...nobody has mentioned it....but what in the good Lord's name was the problem with the squelching PA? I mean the sound system at DCM has been crappy for,,,oh...40 years...but tonite was borderline criminal! Kudos to the dance team for a great performance under less than ideal conditions.
  3. "Big Bad" John is, indeed, a fine example of the many volunteers that toil anonomously behind the scenes to make the high school experience special for the kids, athletically and academically. They are at most every school and I have just two words for them..."THANK YOU!"
  4. Not to tell the Emperor he has no clothes on, (including the "likes"), but bad knees, bad ankle/shoulder, conditioning issues all factor in to platooning. It's hard enough to do it at a high level and almost impossible to do at a high level being "nicked". That '09 team was something else...but they also prolly led the leagues in "nicks"!
  5. LN, ain't no way, no how some of those '09 linemen go both ways. Roller, yes, Collinsworth, yes, Bardo, yes...I'll stretch and say Combs, yes...other than that the platoon system is it. And I feel that the Birds need to "selectively" have a couple two-way players ala that big ol' Lumpy #63 in '08.
  6. Prayers to the Draper family from my family and all of Bluebird nation in this immense time of sadness. It's times like this that really bring home how trivial the inter-school bantering is, as we are all one family in God's eyes and when one is in pain, we all are in pain. To have two children taken to the Lord so early is just unfathomable to me. Ralphie and Theresa are wonderful people and fabulous parents. May the Lord shine His blessings down upon you as Evan is reunited with his brother in Heaven.
  7. Congrats to the Birds on a "gut-check" comeback victory! Shout out to Coach Weinrich for excellent half-time adjustments and also to "the Magician", Coach Scott Turner, for moldng an O-line that seemed to be busting massive holes in Boyles D-line all night. I reckon' it helps to have a stud like Scotty Jr. leading te troops. (If anyone can post the names of the entire O-line, please do. These boys deserve as much recognition as the stable of horses that tote the ball!) A someone posted in another thread, (albeit about another team) "New year, same Highlands".
  8. Is the RB for NewCath named Hayes related to the RB for Highlands named Hayes? Both seem to be beasts!!
  9. Collinsworth, Sheehan, Roller, Stein, Hurtt, Cecil (pick one), Bardo, Hempfling, Schlosser, Bathiany (K), Dempsey (HHS last two-way player), Bruns, Fitzgerald, Rosenhagen, Laber, Kremer(s)...I think I may have left out about a thousand other worthy names.
  10. I heard that team was only any good because of superior coaching! (of course it was the coach who told me that!). But the bigger issue that I've not seen addressed is: Who got to sit behind home plate? Congrats to the Breds...especially Andy "Thriller" Miller! Enjoy it to the MAX!
  11. Way to go Hardballin' Birds! Keep Rockin' !! :ylsuper:
  12. Way to go Andy Miller!! Finish out that Sr. year strong!! "Chicks dig the longball!" :ylsuper:
  13. Congrats to all...stay healthy...cherish the opportunity...graduate!
  14. How can you NOT get carried away? Afterall, Dale says this is his "Fastest, strongest, most talented team EVER!"
  15. Ya' know, sometimes hard-work & determination payoff in the end. Jase wasn't one of the "featured" players at HHS and had to work VERY hard to garner the playing time he got. If there was a vote on who the player one DOESN'T want to go against in practice was, Jason would win by a landslide. I'm really tickled that he's going to continue his FB career and will be doing it at the alma mater of my old teammate (and fellow O-line stalwart), David "Mercury" Morris. WHERE'S WALDO?.......at Rose-Hulman with 'dem Fightin' Engineers! PS...21 would be AWFUL proud of his lil' bro!
  16. DALE! What did we tell you about posting under other peoples' log-ins!!!!!
  17. LOVE da' BLING! On a side note...I attended a trade show in SLC for college licensed merchandise and happened upon a booth for class rings/diploma frames/jewelry etc... and their brochure featured Highlands' 07 and 08 rings (similar to the T one's displayed), a Beechwood ring and Univ. of Cincy's 08 BE champ ring! small world!
  18. ...and the rest of the state thinks the 9th region waters down the Sweet Sixteen.
  19. Looks like "Cool Hand" Luke Turner had the "hot hand"! Maybe all season long, since the coach knew the FB players would be late... and really late by the time they rounded into hoops shape....he has played the season to season the players. (just a theory). But NOW it's time to ...as my old coach usd to say... "dance with the one that brung ya'". Here's to hoping the Birds can make a deep run to a regional title! It's WINNIN' TIME, BOYS!
  20. How will the defection of UK WR coach Tee Martin effect Ozzy's status? Any re-considerations occurring?
  21. Steve Fields, Newport H.S., early-mid 70's.....there wasn't ANYTHING he wasn't good at!
  22. Mike Moore was from Holmes mid-70's.
  23. Congratulations Oz! You went with your heart, so it can't be wrong. Best of luck to one of the most prolific passing combos EVER at HHS. (Towles to Sheehan!). I know it was a VERY tough decision as you had a lot of quality opportunities. Just remember, you'll no longer be the "big cheese" and you're going to have to be MARKEDLY better than a scholly guy to see the field in ANY capacity. But you do possess the ability to make your dreams happen. If you ever get to a point where you need a fellow Bird's shoulder who travelled a similar path...you got his number! Don't be like your old man...stay out of Two Keys, don't close down Tolly Ho's, go to Keeneland only to "look", go to the Library that has books, not beer, study more than party, and above all else, represent the "H" !
