  1. Which is true...until the coaching staff bolts for another program. The new incoming staff just want to see who can play...THAT is when a walk-on has a real chance!
  2. Jake Giesler of NCC wasn't on the All Tourney team???? Whazzup wit dat?
  3. You think the Holmes bashing was bad...wait until Highlands loses a FB game in the 9th region. Whatever team is on top, the rest of the region delights to see them fall. Kind of normal. BUT keep it in perspective, they are kids! Every dog, bird, cat, mustang, colonel, etc has their day. It's the Wildcats time right now and congrats to them!!
  4. Talent ALWAYS makes a coach look better!
  5. WHAT MAKES THEM WILDCATS WILD!!!! Congrats and good luck!
  6. ...I thought it was "Muel-aid" ???
  7. OUTSTANDING!! Just remember: you can't have Duke without UK!! LOL!
  8. Dale is ALWAYS game planning someone!
  9. Jake "the Beast" Giesler will have another big outing here. Double-Doubles are beginning to be the norm for him! If NCC's guards "go Pangallo" on the Rebels, then a whale of a match-up happens with Holmes v. NCC.
  10. I knew Jeffrey from my days at the playground at Ruth Moyer. My condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends. Bellevue was better for having him around!
  11. As to the regular season victory by the Birds, I'll paraphrase Coach Shields circa 1975 when discussing district rivals..."There are 3 pieces of pie. We don't have to eat the whole pie....but we gotta have the LAST piece!" Regular season is practice...the tourney is the season! That said...congrats and good luck to NCC. The Birds will be "But, if..." until next year!
  12. Have the pitchers and catchers reported for baseball yet????
  13. Agreed. See last sentence in 3rd paragraph. BUT there's A LOT to be said about competing against someone other than your shadow. :thumb: 'Crunch...go to FB if you want to be a wise acre!!
  14. The FB program has three distinct advantages over BB 1). They don't cut players. 2.) The FTJFL feeder system 3.) winning history at a high level. By not cutting players, the FB program can keep the marginally talented or the late developing athlete involved. BB, by the size limitations of the squads, cannot afford to keep as many "projects" around. (That is NOT to say that there shouldn't be project players on the squad.) Since projects can't be kept around en masse, there is a need to have an outlet for these kids (grade 6-10) to develop, especially in the Fall/Winter when the stud AAU leagues dominate. FTJBBL at Moyer seems to be trying to fill this void...as is the summer league at St. Catherine. There seem to be more "open" gyms, too. But are they really "open" or just summer practices for the kids already on the team? They need to be more widely available for the "project" kids. But hey, a ball and a hoop is all you need IF you really want to improve. Why fight history? Work with it. The FB program produces fabulous athletes with winning attitudes. Cherry pick the best of them (Shields would!) and adjust to their schedule. The regular season in BB is glorified practice. Yes you want to win...but the season ending tourney is what makes or breaks your season. The FB players should be WELL prepared to go by then. Success breeds success but it doesn't happen overnight. Give Coach Henley some time to fine tune the program.
  15. Does Newport have anyone who can match up with Pangollo? IF not, NCC wins going away. If the 3's aren't raining for NCC...the Cats could continue their storybook season with a big home court championship! Good luck to both teams as they advance to the regional!
  16. When Lother was on the floor in the first half, the Bird's were running and attacking the Breds...and had the lead. When Zach went to the bench with his second foul, the Bird's offense stagnated and NCC was able to claw back and take the lead. Once they had the lead, the game was over as HHS could not match NCC's ball-handling, quickness as they spread the floor. Great game plan by NCC staff. Ben Watson was a beast for the Bird's...played his heart and soul out. Pangallo was the best on floor...inside, outside, dishing...flat out did it all! Thought Jake Giesler did an excellent job letting the game come to him and not pressing early (thus staying out of foul trouble!). Refs were consistent for both teams and let the kids play (my kind of game!) but in the 4Q started to call some ticky-tack fouls...but called them both ways. Refs were VERY patient with the NCC coaches...which they should be in a game of this importance...but hey, HC only should be involved...the other 5 coaches should sit. JMO. Good luck to the Breds!! Don't overlook them Wildcats at home! You don't want to lose and catch Holmes in the first round. Bird SR's...good luck in future endeavors...you gave it your all!
  17. I look for Jake "the Beast" Giesler to rule the paint. Double-double for him. IF the Birds will get out on the perimeter and defend, they could pull out the W in a close one. IF NCC can knock down some 3's, it'll be "next year" for the "Black & Blue" Birds. Birds win 54-51 in an inspired effort from the Sr's playing their "maybe" last game.
  18. Waldo's about 6'2 / 215 ...could add 25-30 lbs and still be lean and mean.
  19. That's a tall order..pun intended...to put a body on NCC's Jake Giesler. In your opinion, how much will HHS miss Grubbs against the Breds?
  20. I hear they're playing not "Where's Waldo" but "WHAT'S Waldo" with Jason Waldenmeyer. The JR to be has been working extremely hard in the winter weight program AND with an outside trainer. He's dependable (ie. good student), tall, monkey long armed, and loves to play. They just don't know if he'll line up on D or O line. Wherever he lines up, I believe he'll be making a major contribution to a 20n10!!
  21. Wasn't this team 19-5 or something?? REAL nice win for the Birds heading into the districts. Birds' bench seems to now be "battle tested"...time for the REAL SEASON to begin. Good Luck Bluebirds!!!!
  22. Not for Highlands with 9th region refs!! LOL!!! Just a joke....sort of!
