Congrats to the Breds and a nice run for the birds.

Cain must have had a solid outing. Congrats to the Birds on a nice late season run and Congrats to the Breds on another regional title. NewCath frosh and varsity baseball teams both win the region this year.

Congrats to the Birds on a great end season and tournament run.

Even higher praise to the Breds. This is their 4th regional title in the last 15 years - 1999, 2008, 2011, 2012.

Other regional champs over the past 15 years - CCH 4 (1998, 2000, 2002, 2005), Beechwood 3 (2004, 2006, 2009), Boone County 2 (2003, 2010), Dixie 2001 and Ryle 2007.

Wolterman's big Triple was the hit of the game. Outside of that, Jones was pitching very well through 4 innings. He found some trouble in the 5th with control and walks. Schultz came in and gave up the triple but then settled down to work a clean 6th and 7th.

I was very impressed with the Birds and how aggressive their batters are even though many lack size. Jakey Whitford (Frosh) had a great tournament hitting the ball and Jake Heck (Jr Rt Fileder) had 3 pokes today including a long double in the gap. He also made some very nice putouts. The Birds will miss the bat of Mitchell Meyer but outside of that they have their entire starting lineup back next year. Molina/Murray/Schultz/Heck/Lester will provide the Sr Leadership and Allen/Cochran/Gesenhues/Whitford/Hennigan/Jones all played like veterans even though only Sophs/Frosh.

Quentin Murray has a gun, his pickoff throw to 2nd of the runner getting off too far was sweet. Also, SS Jakey Whitford was a vaccuum today and during the tournament.

Congrats to the Breds. Josh Cain is a stud on the mound, he threw well and even though he ran into the some trouble in the 7th he pitched a great game.

Good Luck to the Breds and Birds keep working in the weight room and batting cage. Coach Baioni and his staff have done a tremendous job and have a ton to look forward to next season.

Congratulations to Jeff Schulkens and the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds on repeating in the 9th! Not many would have expected this after Highlands knocked them off in the district.

Josh Cain was a stud today. Couple that with Conner Bartels' outing last night and Newcath also has a lot to look forward to next year. Newcath, like Highlands, will return the bulk of their lineup. Should be a great year for both.

Congrats to Jeremy Baioni, his staff and his team on a phenomenal run!! I don't know if any coach gets more out of his kids that Coach B! I know he's crushed, but also incredibly proud. Well done, Coach!

Strong pitching indeed!!!! The Highlands starter, a freshman I believe has a bright future ahead of him. He pitched very well.

Cain was very strong for the Breds through the first 6 innings but did run into some trouble in the 7th.

A BIGTIME CLUTCH performance by Breds closer Andy Miller! BIG KUDOS to that young man! To come in with bases loaded, one out in the 7th inning, up 3-1 in the Regional Final and to perform like he did is very impressive. A routine shallow fly ball to left field for the second out and a shallow foul fly ball down the first base line to end the game (nice catch by Pangallo - almost is nice as the incredible catch he had last night!!!).

Congrats to the Breds on their 3rd Regional Championship in the last 5 years!!!

It is also NCC's 3rd in 5 years. All they do is show up and win when the regional tourney rolls around. And their are some people who still never mention Jeff Schulkens name when the talk of good local high school baseball coaches comes up.

Didn't realize that Newcath are mostly Jr's they will be good next year thier Freshman team won the region also with some stud players on that team looks like the Breds will keep rolling with baseball. Wanted to Congrats Highlands on a great season also the future is bright for the Birds.
