Qryche11 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 (edited) Final in the 36th District Sr's Patrick Towles and Sam Lewis led the Birds. Birds led by 15 at the half and extended lead to 20 early in the 3rd qtr 47-27 but the Tigers' Brandon Hoffman put them on his back and cut the lead to 10 I believe within minutes. He is a nice ballplayer who had a very nice career. Birds didnt shoot well from perimeter and were 2-12 from behind the arc at the half. Nick True had a nice game off the bench for the Birds. Birds will advance to play the Breds on SAt night in the finals. Edited February 23, 2012 by mcpapa Per member request
stinkyboy II Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 HHS gets their 10th win of the season and a trip to next weeks regional while Holy Cross (28 wins) and Brossart (20 wins) are out.

You make a great point!!! All of you people saying that unseeded Districts make for a watered down regional??? This year is a watered down Regional!!! Of the teams in the 9th Region tournament, HC has beaten 5, lost to 2 and didn't play 1.

stinkyboy II Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Not so sure that the regional is watered down just because HC will not be there. Holmes, Boone and Dixie are all quality teams that will represent well if they survive. BTW, HHS is 0-7 versus the other regional qualifiers. Average margin of defeat 15 points. Work hard, play hard, anything can happen - that's why they play the games.

PurplePride92 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Congrats, Q!! I wish you guys nothing but the best this Saturday and next week. Nothing but love from your Boyle County homey.
TAC Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Congrats to the birds! How was the officiating? I heard some grumblings from a tiger fan. Was it bad or just sour grapes?
Sandbagger Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 For anyone to mention a "watered down" regional is ridiculous! There were years that the 36th had NCC & HHS & Newport all had good teams and one of them was eliminated early etc. This also has been the case with HC, CCH, and Holmes. Bottom line winners play, losers turn in uniforms period. I also agree with Stinky the teams like Dixie, Boone, Holmes, NCC, and CCH don't think it is watered down and frankly don't care..
Qryche11 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Congrats to the birds! How was the officiating? I heard some grumblings from a tiger fan. Was it bad or just sour grapes? They let a ton of hacks go each way. The Tiger guards were literally slapping the Highlands guards and grabbing their arms. Hoffman got fouled a couple times on drives and they ate the whistle but he still finished at the rim nicely tonight. I wouldnt say the officating was bad though. Pouncy did a very nice job as he normally does. The Birds lead was never in jeopardy but the Tigers played hard. The Freshman Center Woodyard has a nice future ahead of him. Poinsett is a quick guard with a nice handle and Myers plays aggressively. They will miss Hoffman's scoring next year and Fogleman's toughness but they have a few kids returning with nice experience. Best of Luck to Coach Hicks and the Tigers. The Bellevue Band was very entertaining as well. Brought back a lot of memories with their fight song.
Qryche11 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 10 players made the Boxscore for Highlands. Towles led with 19 and sophomore Drew Houliston had 10 pts off the bench. Hoffman led Bellevue with 23 points 12 cominG in the final qtr of his HS career.

Brought back a lot of memories with their fight song.[/ If Bellevue could not do it this year then I do not like their chances in the future. They had three returning starters in Hoffmann, Fogleman & Ackerson and two other's who had starts under their belt in Pointsett & Snow. Highlands will not be this bad again for many year's to come. I remember an article in the paper where the Bellevue coach stated Hoffmann was one of the best players in the region and that the Tigers would likely battle for their conference title. They finished FOURTH. Only beating out Calvary who won 1 game, Heritage and Silver Grove...even losing a game to the Trains. How did a season with such hope go so wrong? Also hearing there was a physical altercation toward a player by a member of the Bellevue coaching staff earlier this season??
