I know he didn't write it, but I thought we were listing the singers, not the writers.

 

How often do the actual writers not do the song first? Tug's son didn't cut the tune until a full five years after it first appeared on Ryan Adams' album "Gold."

 

And I've heard Tug's son's version, and it's nowhere near as good as the original, like most cover tunes.

I have no clue, I don't follow music very closely.

C'mon dude, Tim McGraw is a belt buckle and a hat. He's just like all the rest of the Nashville stars in that he needs someone else to write his songs for him.

Ryan Adams is great. As was Whiskeytown.

 

I really hate country. I guess I should say modern country, and I haven't listened to enough of the classic stuff to come up with a decent answer. I liked Jim's choice of "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow, and I would proffer "I Feel Alright" by Steve Earle as my choice. If we consider the Drive By Truckers country I would also add "Gravity's Gone" and "Zip City."

I am a huge country music fan so there is many songs that hit home with me. That is what I love about country music... for the most part it is songs about real life that everyone can relate to. Anyway, here is just some that come to mind......
