I watched this one and overall it was a decent game with Allegheny ((5-50 posting the shutout win over Rochester (4-7). Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif.) paced the winners with 2 RBI, going 1-4. Brent Herrmann (Canfield, Ohio) picked up the win (W, 2-0) with a complete game two-hitter. He struck out six with three walks. For Rochester, Nolan Sparks (Aurora, CO) took the loss. (L, 0-2) He went five innings, giving up two hits, with 4 bases on ballas, and 5 strikeouts.

Ariyon "BEAR" Carter-Stills North Hardin High School MLB/RB 2027 You are an active student-athlete. Would you share with the readers all of the sports and activities that you are involved in? Spanish club R.O.T.C FOOTBALL BASKETBALL TRACK As a younger player, how nervous, if at all, were you at the first varsity practice? First practice I wasn't nervous at all. My dad has always told us to treat every practice not as a practice but as a game. My older brother Teddy was the starting RB, and I was just following his lead. He also let me know no one was going to take it easy just because we were freshman; they were probably going to go at us even harder. What were your goals entering the 2023 season, and were you able to achieve those goals? I came into 2023 wanting to play both sides of the ball, but my only goal at first was just to make Varsity. Once I accomplished that, I added more and more goals, like being a starter, then I wanted to achieve certain stats: tackles, forced fumbles, sacks, even a pick 6, etc. During the season, if you were struggling with anything football-related, which teammate or teammates did you go to for advice? I think the teammate that helped me out the most would have to be my mentor, Mason Howard, our other senior MLB player. He was the guy I played side by side with, so we always wanted to be on the same page. He would always let me know if I missed an assignment or how to do things better, which I would say helped out my game tremendously. As far as encouragement goes, I think that would be my brother Teddy (RB) and cousin Ronald (WR), who both started on the offensive side. Let me know to keep my head up and just keep hitting. Which position do you enjoy playing the most? I originally came into the season wanting to be a two-way player, which is rare at our school with us being 6A. They both have their moments. I started out trying with the RBs, but once I knew I had a shot as a varsity LB, I went with what would get me on the field because that's what I enjoy about playing the game. I do love the excitement and rush of running the ball as well, but you need to be versatile if you want to play at the next level. What did you learn the most during the season that you will use to be a better player in the future? Trust yourself!! No matter what,. Who was the best player you have ever faced, along with the sport and team he played for? Probably Kade Goodin; he is a freshman this year as well, and I know how dangerous he can be at WR and Safety. We played together on the KY FBU as well as the KY Future Stars team, but this year we were on different sides of the field, and he transitioned to the QB spot at Collins High School. We faced them during a preseason scrimmage. During the game, it was all business between us, but we did have a few laughs and words back and forth. Who was the best team you guys faced during the 2023 season, along with the reason or reasons you believe they were so good? I would have to say Owensboro Catholic; they were just fundamentally grounded in the game with very few mistakes. What game were you most looking forward to heading into the 2023 season, as well as the reason you were looking forward to that game? Honestly, I looked forward to every game. Being a freshman, I had something to prove. I wanted to show everyone how and why I earned my spot. Which road game during the season had the best overall atmosphere? Explain I believe Central Hardin is a rival school across town, so it's always going to be a big game with a big crowd. Do you believe private schools have an unfair advantage over public schools? I think private schools have a huge advantage over public schools, as a lot of kids go to private schools to gain that advantage due to money for better facilities and trainers. Even with the way the classification is done, some private schools can have the same number of students but all males, which makes it easier to recruit a player for the team. Which sport do you believe you are the best at? Football has always been my go-to sport. I've been playing for 9 years and it's just come natural. The other sports are to help me stay conditioned for football so I can remain working hard in the off-season. What were the high and low points of your 2023 season? I would say the highest point was probably Barren County. I was so zoned in that game that the air felt light and the crowd was silent. I ended that game with, I believe, 14 tackles. My lowest was against Owensboro Catholic. I was a lot smaller than their line, so it was a little harder for me to get off blocks, but I still had to make it work and play the game. What is one food that you refuse to eat? Honestly, there isn't really anything I don't eat. I love most food and like trying new things. What scares you? Failing What was the last book you read along with the author? The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas link to Interview with pics sent to me by the young man https://hearltlandfan15.blogspot.com/2024/03/2024-interview-with-busy-ariyon-carter.html

Maryville (4-3) plates two in the bottom of the eighth to post the come-from-behind win over a tough-luck Allegheny (2-2) squad. Max Bowers (Maryville, Tenn.) paced the winner's offense with 2 hits and 2RBI. AJ Finco (Fort Myers, Fla) also had two hits with 1RBI. Chris Arbuthnot (Knoxville, Tenn.) 1-0 picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Ryan Dougherty (Wexford, PA) and Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich.) had two hits in the loss.

Mason Fields Dixie Heights Quarterback 2026 What were your goals heading into the 2023 season, and were you able to accomplish those goals? In 2023, I learned that no matter the circumstance, I must keep working and stay ready. I have learned and really found a motive within my training this offseason with the experience that I had this past season. What were the high and low points of your 2023 season? The highest moment of the 2023 season for me was when I realized our team's potential when we went into Cov Cath, a top-5 team in the state of Kentucky, and came up just 7 points short in the final minute of the game. My lowest part of the season was when I saw the game slip from the fingers of all my senior teammates in our round 2 playoff loss to the Highlands. What do you feel you need to improve on the most to become a better player? This offseason, I have recognized that my measureables and my speed must be raised in order to take my play to the next level. I have been attacking these goals and have seen much improvement so far this off-season. What are you doing during the off-season to help you become a better player? This off-season, we have been working out 5–6 times a week, becoming better and growing closer to each other. From what I have seen among my teammates, we will be a much improved team. I have read that you are spending a lot of time hitting the weights. How is it going, and what do you think the benefits will be as far as football goes? I have spent a lot of my work this offseason in the weight room developing my body to compete better through the transition to the Varsity level. The strength training itself is going great, and I do not plan on slowing down my progress anytime soon. As a quarterback, how much time on your own do you spend throwing with your receivers? I spend most of my free time going up to the field with my receivers and putting in extra work. Whenever one is available, I will take advantage and put in work. What is the hardest defense for you to face? I wouldn’t say that there is any defense that poses a specific threat to me. I feel like I can handle any mix of coverage or blitz packages that the opponent throws at me. What has been the best advice you have been given when it comes to football, along with the person who gave you the advice? The best advice that has been given to me is to trust the process and to keep working, especially when nobody else is. This saying has come from many of the coaches that I have had the experience to play for, from the youth to the high school level. If you could add one team to the schedule and take one team off, who would it be? I feel like our coach has given us a schedule with loads of competition and talented teams that I am ready to face. What is the best and worst part of practice? My favorite part of practice is definitely the first practice of the week, when our new opponent's defense is thrown at me and I must see what I can do to find the weaknesses. To me, there is no worst part of practice. I love it all. What if anything would you change about the Kentucky High School Playoff System? I wish that the playoff system was reverted to how the previous system was prior to 2022, when district championships were played in the playoffs. Do you feel that you and your teammates are role models to the younger kids who come and root for you guys to win? Most definitely. I love seeing the kids that admire us and hope to be on the same field as us some day, exactly like I used to be. Now that I am in high school, I try to stay around the kids as much as possible by officiating youth football and helping out with the quarterbacks at our middle school. Where is the best spot in town to grab a meal? A spot that can never fail me is PeeWees. I love to go grab a good burger or breakfast at PeeWees, whether it is with my teammates after practice or with my family after church. PeeWees never fails. Who are your favorite and least favorite pro football teams? I’ve got to say the hometown team, the Bengals. I’ve always been raised by my dad to watch and root for them. And, almost more importantly, root against the Steelers. What scares you? Nothing, other than heights. Heights have got to be my biggest fear, and the weird part is that I love riding roller coasters. So I guess that if I’m moving, I’ll be just fine. Kaleb Evans Lloyd Memorial High School. Quarterback 2026 Entering the 2023 season, what were your personal goals, and were you able to achieve those goals? My personal goals were to stay healthy. No, I got injured at the beginning of the year. What is the biggest thing you need to improve on to become a better quarterback? I need to become faster to add more than just me throwing the ball. What has been your most embarrassing moment as an athlete? My most embarrassing moment would be when we lost a game by 40 points. We should not have lost that much, and it was embarrassing that we did. How much time do you spend on your own study film as well as the time you spend doing so with the team? I spend time after school watching films, and I watch them all day on game day. We watch films as a team about 3 days a week and on Saturday morning after our game. Which type of defense is the hardest for you, as a quarterback, to prepare for? I would say a cover 4 or when they only rush 3. It’s usually more difficult when they have lots of people back in the zone. What were the high and low points of the 2023 season? My high would be my first game back from injury, and I threw 2 touchdowns for 245 yards. It was a very exciting night. My low would be when I got injured at the beginning of the season. What was the biggest lesson you learned during the 2023 season that you will be able to use to up your game this season? To get stronger, gain more weight, and become faster. Where should the state finals be held? I think the UK stadium is where it needs to be. What is your game-day routine? 1. Go to school. 2. Watch some films. 3. Eat some food. 4. Go to the field and get ready. 5. Team meeting 6. Game time! Do you think not having spring ball puts Lloyd Memorial behind the Kentucky schools that do have it? I think that it would definitely help us out, but I think we will be fine. We have multiple 7v7s ahead of us, and we will continue to be in the weight room. If the game is on the line, which play are you hoping your coach calls? Explain: It depends on the game circumstances, but I would want a play with some crossing routes, and I would like to roll out. This will give us more options and more time. What will you miss the most from the 2024 class? Their leadership and the bond that we all had. What is one food you refuse to eat? Seafood Will you watch any of the new UFL games? Yea, I heard about it, and it looks pretty cool. What is the one sport you cannot watch on TV? Ronald Lunz North Hardin High School, Radcliff, KY Receiver 2026 How long have you played football, along with the reason you continue to play? I have been playing football for 4 years. I continue to play the game because I love it. What were your personal goals heading into the 2023 season, and were you able to achieve those goals? I am heading into my junior year. Regardless of the year I am going into, I have one goal, and that is to win a state title. Everything I do is to help my team win the state. What were the high and low points of your 2023 season? This season ended with some ‘technical’ difficulties that caused us to forfeit games. Our record as a team suffered from it. The high point is that it brought us together as a team. I am looking forward to building that. Coach Thompson does a good job keeping the team focused on the strengths of the team and not the distractions. What are you going to miss the most from the 2024 class? The leadership and brotherhood that came from our seniors. We have some players going on to play at the collegiate level. I am looking to build on the knowledge that was left behind. North has a rich tradition of players playing at the next level but still contributing to the team. Who was the best player you faced in a game last season, along with the team he played for? Brady Atwell was the best player I saw this year. He is a rising senior quarterback at Owensboro Catholic. I admire his command of the field. He is definitely going to be something special. I can’t wait to see what he does this year. Who was the best team North Hardin faced last season, and what do you feel made them so good? I believe the best team we faced this year was Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL) in week three. It's not anything in particular; they just played solid football. They played extremely well as a team and had great athletes on each side of the ball. What is the hardest aspect of playing wide receiver? Decision-making is easily the hardest thing for a receiver. While running a route or coming off the line, there are often times where you will have to cut on a dime or take a different release. Sometimes the littlest thing can determine the success of a certain route. Even deciding when or how to pick up a block can be the difference between 0 and 6 points. How much film do you watch with the team and then on your own? During the season, our team watches films every week on Sundays. One of the lessons I learned from my older brother, Michael Lunz, is the importance of watching films. Usually, I am waiting for the coaches to post the film on Friday night. I also watch films throughout the week for the upcoming opponent. Last year, in the off-season, I worked with one of my trainers, Trevor Deneen, on watching CB body language. I use the tips he taught while watching films on opponents. What do you believe is the strongest part of your game? The best part of my game is my versatility. I can play both the slot and wideout positions. I honestly believe my strongest part is simply my love of the game. It fuels me. The love pushes me to get the extra yards and to keep going even when my body does not want to. What do you believe is the part of your game that you must improve on the most? Blocking is the one thing I am trying to get better at. Blocking is one of my most underrated skills as a receiver. The UK HC Stoops told the WR that if they are not blocking, they are not playing. That was a wake-up call for me. I have made it a point to improve it and bring it into next season. I want to show coaches I am a well-rounded, forward-thinking receiver. What have you been doing during the off-season to help you improve your game? My top priority in the off-season is training. Monday through Friday, I am training after team weightlifting. I do additional weight training with my trainer, Derrick Alfonso. With him, I have gained over twenty pounds since the beginning of the season. I also do speed and explosive work with the speed king, Corey Taylor. Hardin County also has a 7v7 team I play for. Getting touches on the ball always pays off. What are your thoughts on girls playing high school football? I feel any man or woman can do anything they set their mind to. My mom just started a county-wide 7v7 team. My sister is going to WKU for sports management. Being a woman in sports is how I grew up. Where is the best local spot to grab a meal? Our team ritual after games is to grab a bite to eat at Waffle House. There is nothing like it after a game. Which sport of the two that you play, basketball or football, do you feel you are best at? I played basketball most of my life. It was time I thought that was my future. That was until I really started playing football. Nothing can compare to running the perfect route, the ball being right where it’s supposed to be, or those over-the-shoulder catches. I love the feeling football gives me when I'm on the field. What is your favorite class or subject? My favorite subject is math. Link to interview with pics https://hearltlandfan15.blogspot.com/2024/02/2024-interview-with-two-sport-star.html
