  6. Hanging around the same. Something has to change. 29 workouts so far and the calories are below what I have set, but the weight is not changing. I think it will be all cardio this week at the gym. At 60 the weight goes up a lot faster than it goes down.

  11. Ben Davis Murray High School, KY D-end nose guard left tackle kicker running back 2024 What were my personal goals going into the 2023 season, and did I achieve them? My goals during the season were to be better than I was last year and to produce more for the team. Yes, I achieved those goals. Who was the best player I played against? The best player I played against was the running back JoJo Starks from Mayfield. What was it like playing for Coach Cunningham? Playing for Cunningham was different because, from freshman to senior year, I had to go through three different head coaches, but honestly, I really liked Cunningham and the way he did things and how well he knew the game. What do I believe my class left for the Murray football program? I believe that we left something of tradition and expectations that they needed to live up to. What were the highs and lows of the season? The highs were playing as a family, playing as one on the field sometimes, and doing as well as we did with a new coach coming in when it did. The lows of the season were injuries. What was the best part of the recruiting process? The best part of the recruiting process was traveling and getting to meet new people and coaches from all over the place. What was the worst part of the recruiting process? The drive was the worst—just constantly sitting there in a car. Can you share some of the schools that recruited you? Union, KCU, Midway, Kentucky State, Birmingham Prep, and Florida Central. What made you choose Union College? I chose Union because they had good football, and the thing I wanted to major in was a 100 percent passing rate. What position was I recruited for? I got recruited to play defensive end. What were your emotions when walking off the field the last time? My feelings and emotions the last time were a lot of things, but I was thinking that it was my last time being on the field as a player and that the younger kids on the team had to fill in my footsteps. What is your favorite type of music, along with your favorite song and artist? My favorite music is rap. My favorite song is Great Gatsby by Rod Wave. My favorite artist is Rod Wave. When you are back home from school, will you try to catch a Murray game? Oh yeah, for sure, if I’m in town, I’m not going to miss the chance to see my guys play. What will you be majoring in once you’re enrolled at Union? I plan on majoring in nursing. 12. Braxton Blackburn Betsy Layne High School, Ky Lb/Lt 2025 What were your personal goals entering the 2023 season, and were you able to achieve those goals? I wanted to become the best version of myself and break records with my team, and we were able to achieve those goals. What is the toughest part of a Betsy Layne practice? Conditioning with Coach Isom. The Bobcats posted a nice 10-2 record in 2023. Of the two teams you lost to, which one was the better, and what made them so good? We lost to two great teams, but Shelby Valley was the better team because of their speed, size, and how fast they played. In watching your Hudl highlight reel, you seem to have fun when you are laying the wood for anyone around you. Is there a college or pro player you pattern your defensive game after? On defense, I try to model myself after Fred Warner, as I love to have fun and attack the ball. On offense, I model myself as Trent Williams, hard-nosed and going to do anything to get the win. I also noticed that when you are on the O-line, you pull very well and are able to get downfield and find someone to hit. Which side of the line is the toughest to prepare for? Explain Defensive line is always a toss up there, either bringing 4 or running some crazy’s stunts, so I would say defensive line is harder to prepare for. Going back to week one of the Clark County Bowl. How special was it not only playing in the bowl game but also getting the win? I missed that game, unfortunately, but it was a big morale booster for our team, and we were able to ride the hot hand throughout the season. Who has been the best player you have ever faced in a game, along with the team he played for? Martin County’s Bryston Wells plays with great speed and physicality; he really is a beast. What are your thoughts on girls playing on the football team? We don’t have any, but I think if they can play, let them play. Where should the state finals be held? Kroger field If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be, along with the reason? Celebrating after you make a big play or score, I think you shouldn’t let it get too excessive, but hitting a celebration after a score should be aloud. Have you heard from any schools as far as playing at the next level? Could you please name some of the schools? Kentucky Wesleyan, along with Westfield State, has shown some interest. What is the biggest thing you need to improve on to become a better all-around player? Being able to read the defense on offense. Defense I need to improve on being in my gap as soon as the ball snaps. Have you ever been to a Pikeville University football game? Yes, it’s a great atmosphere with great coaching staff. Other than sports, what are some of the things you do for fun? I love fishing, and along with fishing, some consider me a pro bowler. What is your favorite type of music, along with your favorite song and the artist? Rap is my favorite genre. My favorite artists are NBA Youngboy,Drake, and Little Baby. My favorite song right now is No Hook by Key Glock. Link to article with pics https://hearltlandfan15.blogspot.com/2024/02/2024-interview-with-braxton-blackburn.html
  13. Monday and Tuesday I was sick. Worked Monday but Tuesday I lasted one hour and had to go home. I have missed 2 days of work in the last three years.
  14. Travis Burns Pulaski County High School Head Football Coach Congrats on getting the head coaching job at Pulaski County! Would you share with everyone your coaching career, from your first job up to your current position? I started my coaching career at George Rogers Clark High School in 2015 as the linebackers coach. In 2016, I started at Boyle County as the outside linebackers coach. I was in Boyle County for 8 years. My most recent role was Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator. Now I am the head football coach at Pulaski County High School. Have you decided on the offense and defense you will run this season? Offensively and defensively, we will look very similar to what we did at Boyle County. Establishing the run and stopping the run. I have talked to enough coaches who have taken over a program, and it seems the common thread from last year does not matter. We are starting all over. How much of who started last season will play a part in who starts this season? I agree with the other coaches. Last year does not matter. It is all about work and production. The best 11 will play. Could you share some of the changes you plan on making to help the team recover from the 4-8 record posted this past season? Well, we were very young last year. A lot of players have another year to grow and mature. I'm big on it; it’s not what we do, but how we do it. Emphasis on how we practice and the mindset of the teams. Who are some of the coaches you have learned the game from, and how much of what you have learned from them will you incorporate into what you do? Two of my bosses at Boyle County were Chuck Smith and Justin Haddix. Both of them are legends in their own right, and both of them made huge impacts on me as a coach. The lessons that I learned from them and others that I worked with are essential to who I am as a coach. What are your thoughts on playing out-of-state teams, and will you be playing any once you have openings in your schedule? With the current state of the RPI in Kentucky, it’s hard to play an out-of-state team because of how they factor into the RPI. I do not foresee us playing an out-of-state team unless we have to. What changes, if any, would you make to the playoff format that the state of Kentucky has? I have really benefited from the current format. For the most part, it has done a great job of getting the best teams to the dance. I do believe some changes need to be made to how it is calculated. What are your thoughts about students playing multiple sports? I think athletes should play all the sports they want to play. Other sports will teach them things that they will not get as a football player. How important is it to you that all of the lower levels throughout the program play a full schedule? It’s essential that all levels play a full schedule because if they don't, then they are limiting the number of reps they can get. Live reps are important to a player's development. Should all teams in the program run the same base offense and defense? Explain Yes, it should be the same at the lower levels as it is at the varsity level. This allows kids to already be prepared with their terminology, concepts, and techniques, and you can keep pushing farther forward. Do you think the price of a ticket for a high school game is getting to the point where the casual fan is no longer attending as many games as they did 10 or 15 years ago? No, I believe that streaming services have allowed casual fans to still watch the game from the comfort of their own homes. What sports did you play in high school and college? I just played football. What is the one sport you cannot watch on TV? Baseball. What is a talent you have that might shock your players? I’m not sure on that one.
