  1. Carter Schroer Dixie Heights Safety/DE/LB 2024 What are you going to miss the most about playing high school football? What I'm going to miss the most about playing is that I will never be able to play with the brothers that I've grown up with and have played with since I was 6 years old. What is your biggest regret looking back on your football career at Dixie Heights? My biggest regret is losing back-to-back close games in the final seconds to Beechwood and Cov Cath. It was my last time playing those two schools, and to lose and suffer heartbreak is a hard pill to swallow. What is your favorite memory from playing football? My favorite memory from playing football was upsetting Woodford County in the first round of the playoffs this year after being huge underdogs. How important is it to you to be invited to play in the Northern Kentucky All-Star Series game? It is very important to me because I believe that I am one of the better Northern Kentucky players, and I felt like I proved that this year! What were your feelings as you walked off the field for the last time as a high school football player? The emotions were really high because knowing that was my last ever high school game and, at that point, thinking it was my last ever football game really just hurt me and didn’t feel real. What has football taught you that you can use in life off the field? No matter what happens and what setbacks bring you, you just have to keep fighting and prove that you can do it. If you could go back and play one last high school game, who are you playing against and why that team? The game would be the Cov Cath game this year, when we lost on a 4th down touchdown with 13 seconds left. It was a heart breaker, but the best a Dixie team has played in a while. Dixie hasn’t beaten Cov Cath since 2007, and when I stepped foot at Dixie, the goal was to beat Cov Cath. Knowing we came that close to beating them was a terrible feeling but also a good one. Safety, Linebacker, and Defensive End. Of the three positions you are listed as playing, which one are you being recruited for? Of the 3 positions, the most I would say are an outside linebacker and a defensive end spot. Can you share with everyone some of the teams that are recruiting you? I am committed to Bellarmine University, but I also had teams like Ohio Wesleyan, Mount St. Joe, and Otterbein. What has been the best and worst part of the recruiting process? The best part was finding my home at Bellarmine, and the worst part was going on those long car rides. Since you have signed with a school close to home, will you go back and watch any Dixie Heights games this year? With Bellarmine being in Louisville, I will definitely come back and watch a game! What will you be majoring in once you are enrolled in college? I will be majoring in nursing! What is one sport you wish you could play but do not have the talent for? I wish I was a good golf player, but for me, it’s not mine! Who is your favorite athlete? My favorite athlete is Jamarr Chase. What was the last book you read along with the author? The last book I read was Their Eyes Were Watching God by Nora Zeale Hurston in reading class! 3. Some Wac-action and another one-point win for Seattle (13-9, 6-5 Conf) who needed not only a late-game comeback but an offensive rebound by Kobe William (Melbourne, VIC)who somehow put the ball in the hoop while being fouled. He also nailed the free throw securing the win. For the game, he scores 9 points with 5 boards. Three of his rebounds were on the offensive end. Calfornia Baptist (13-8, 6-4 conf) had won five straight conference games. Leading the Redhawks was, Cameron Tyson (Bothell, WA) 18 points, and 5 boards for the Lances of California Baptist, Dominique Daniels Jr. (Compton, CA) had a game-high 26 points and 2 assists.
  4. A good battle out of the Missouri Valley Conference. Indiana State (20-3, 11-1 Conf) blew a 17-point lead but rebounded to post the eight-point win. Drake (18-5, 9-3 Conf) The teams split the two games and both should/could make it to the conference tourney final if things do not go awry. Ryan Conwell (Indianapolis, IN) had 21 points, 7 boards, and 3 assists for the winners. His top help came from, center Robbie Avila (Oak Forest, IL) with 20 points, 11 boards, and 4 assists. For Drake, Tucker DeVries (Waukee, IA) led all scorers with 26 points and 10 boards.
  5. UC Davis (14-9,9-2 Big West) almost blew a double-digit lead as they held on to beat Cal Poly (4-19, 0-11 Conf) in a tight defensive battle out of the Big West Conference. The winners were ice-cold from the field hitting 37% of their shots while the Mustangs hit 34%. Elijah Pepper (Selah, WA) led the Aggies with 16 points, 8 boards, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Kobe Sanders (San Diego, CA) had 14 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the loss.
  6. Riley McGrath Dixie Heights High School 2024 Safety, corner, receiver What were some of your biggest goals, and how did you accomplish them? Heading into the 2023 season, my biggest goal was to overcome the collarbone injury I had my junior year and help my team win any way I could. I would say I achieved those goals by earning a starting job on week 1 and helping out on both sides of the ball when my number was called. How has your class left a mark on Dixie Heights? I think it’s safe to say that the Dixie Heights 2024 class will not be forgotten. With it being our head coach's second year with a brand new staff, we made an impact. Even though we didn’t finish out the season how we wanted, we set a new standard of being one of the hardest-working teams in the state. Which side of the ball do you feel you are better at, along with the reason you believe so? I believe naturally I am a receiver; I understand spacing and how to read the defender pretty well, as well as just having natural receiver attributes. I played most of the season at defensive back and safety, though, because that’s where I was needed the most. I feel I am a very balanced player, but I definitely enjoy the offensive side of the ball! If you are invited to play in an all-star game, will you? 100% of the time, any opportunity to play more football is one I’d take! What regrets do you have about your high school football career? Not capitalizing on big moments in our senior year. We played some of the best teams in Kentucky and played them very well, but ended up losing close games because we couldn’t capitalize when it was needed most. In your eyes, what was your biggest accomplishment on the football field? Bouncing back from a pretty bad collarbone surgery, I only got to play two games my junior year, and it was a really long recovery, but I came back stronger than ever and was fortunate enough to have a good season. Who was the best player you ever went up against in a game, along with the team he played for? I would have to say my guy and former teammate Willie Rodriguez out of Cov Cath is definitely one of the most physical players I’ve played with and against. Can you tell us about some of the schools that are recruiting you? Bellarmine, Ohio Wesleyan, and Anderson, just to name a few! What has been the best part of the recruiting process? Honestly, I’ve loved the whole experience, the ability to learn things from a variety of different coaches and different programs, and being blessed with plenty of opportunities to see what was the best fit for me! What has been the worst part of the recruiting process? Like I said, I’ve loved all of it, but honestly, my least favorite part was that I didn’t learn more about the process before I started getting recruited because I feel like I kind of went in blind, and if I knew what to look for already, it would’ve made the process a lot smoother. What must you improve on the most before you step onto a college field? Honestly, I’ve never been more ready to get back to playing ball! I’ve just got to stay explosive and maintain the weight I’ve been building up! What is a talent that you have that would shock others? Honestly, I like to view myself as a do-it-all type of guy, meaning I can play anywhere I’m needed. My willingness to compete and get on that field will definitely shock some people this fall! What is one sport you wish you could play but do not have the talent to do so? I used to play baseball up until high school, but I couldn’t touch the pitches these guys are throwing now. What is your favorite genre of music, along with your favorite song? I like it all, but I listen to rap a lot, like Pregame, and in the weight room, my favorite song switches up a bunch, but right now it’s never recovered by Little Baby, Gunna, and Drake. 7. Elon (10-13, 3-7 CAA) Picked up a much-needed conference road win tonight over a Spunk N.C.A&T (7-16, 5-5 Conf). Elon hit 48.9% of their shots in the win led by Zac Ervin (Gate City, VA) who came off the bench to score 12 points to go with 3 rebounds. Jalal McKie (Atlanta, GA) had 23 in the loss. Camian Shell (Winston-Salem, NC) had 22 in the loss.
  8. What a good game. Harvard (11-7, 2-3 Ivy) trailed for most of the game before taking the lead deep into this one, then they hung on as Columbia (10-8, 1-4 conf) missed a potential game-winning three with seconds left. Malik Mack (Oxon Hill, MD) led the winners even though he played very poorly in the final few minutes. 18 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Chisom Okpara (Bronxville, NY) 13 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. For Columbia, Kenny Nolan (Apex, NC) came off of the bench to score 12 points and pull down 5 boards.
  9. Name: Randy Cross Pro Team SF 49ers College Team: UCLA High School Crespi Carmelite First, thank you for giving me the time. I will go back to when you played high school football. What is the fondest memory you have of those days? I enjoyed playing defense and being able to dominate my side. In high school, I didn’t much care for playing offense. What made you choose UCLA? I grew up a fan. Besides UCLA, what other schools recruited you? USC, Nebraska, Alabama, Texas, and Notre Dame What was the game you remember the most from your time at UCLA, and then the game that you wish you could forget? Beating #1 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Losing to USC my sophomore year Who were some of the best players you played with and against in college? Mark Harmon, John Sciarra, Wally Henry, Wendell Tyler, James McCallister, Kermit Johnson, Fulton Kuykendal, Jimmy Allen, Cliff Frazier, Manu Tuiasosopo, Jerry Robinson, Gary Jeter, Chuck Muncie, and Dave Pear Growing up in Ohio long before cable, the USC/UCLA game was always on TV. What are your fondest memories from those games? Obviously, the wins were the highlights, led by the 65+75 games. You were the 42nd player taken in the draft (2nd round). What were your emotions like on that day, waiting to have your name called? Apprehensive and excited How nervous were you at the first practice being surrounded by guys like Jim Plunkett, Gene Washington, and all of the other veterans? Pretty excited, actually. Then we went out to practice to face one of the best defenses in the NFL, the Gold Rush. What was it like to start 10 games during that rookie year? It was. An honor When you made the move from center to guard, how tough was that, along with why the move was made? Bill Walsh wanted to run an offense featuring pulling guards, and I could run. It was a compliment I intended on following through on. 1982 Super Bowl Champions: As a Cowboys lifetime fan, I still cringe every time I see "THE CATCH." What do you remember about that play? How high Dwight jumped, and then the utter bedlam that followed. What was the feeling heading into the Super Bowl? How confident were you and the team heading into that game? It was truly just the next game and challenge. Who was the better team that year? The Cowboys or the Bengals? Probably the Cowboys How hard was it to decide you were retiring for the NFL? It was hard, but I had always told myself the last thing I’d do was just hold on to squeeze out 1-2 more years. Plus, it gave me the chance to go out on top. Can you tell the fans what you have done since leaving the game? I’ve been doing TV and radio since 1989, the first 20 years of the NFL, and since then, CFB. 17. In another game that I watched today though the score does not show it Tennessee (15-4, 5-1 SEC) had to work hard to top in-state rival Vandy (5-14, 0-6 conf) on the road. Dalton Knecht (Thornton, CO) was a man playing against boys tonight. He went off for 32 points, 6 boards, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. Jonas Aldo0 (Durham, NC) had 10 boards to go with 9 points. For Vandy, Tyrin Lawrence (Monticello, GA) had 21 points, 8 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
  18. Have to admit Iowa (12-8, 4-5 Big) made my college basketball night by adding another loss to Michigan's (7-13, 2-7 conf) slate. Iowa was 100% from the free throw line going 18-18. They hit 8-16 from beyond the three-point arch for 50% and overall they hit 53.4% of their shots. Leading the way to the road win was, Payton Sandfort (Waukee, IA) 26 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists. His top helper was Tony Perkins (Indianapolis, IN) 24 points with 5 assists. For the team up North, Terrance Williams II (Clinton, MD) had 16 points.
  19. The WAC is not what it once was but it is still a fun conference to watch and this one did not disappoint. The Lopes (19-2, 9-1 conf) came from double digits down late to pick up the road win over the Mavericks (9-11, 4-5 conf). The Lopes overcame an ice-cold 21.1% from beyond the three-point arc by hitting 31-36 free throws. Leading the way in the win was, Ray Harrison (Greenville, SC) with 16 points and a game-high 4 steals. For UT Arlington, they hit 36.5% from the field with, Dajuan Gordon (Chicago, IL) leading the way with a double-double 13 points and 10 boards. He also had 3 steals.
  20. Towson (13-8, 6-2 CAA) hit the road and picked up a big conference win over a struggling but always-tough at-home Delaware (12-9, 4-4 conf) squad. Towson owned the boards 44-31 though they were outshot by the home team 39.1% to 37.3%. Clearing the path for the win was Christian May (Edinburg, VA) with 23 points and 8 boards. His biggest help came from the bench where Dylan Williamson (Upper Marlboro, MD) stuck for 16 points about nine over his season average. For the Blue Hens, Jyare Davis (Newark, DE) was the lone bright sport with 18 points and 5 boards.
