Brenan Griffin Hart County High School FB/LB 2025 5,10 180 How long have you played football, along with the reasons you continue to play? I have been playing football since the age of 5. I play football because it makes me a better person in all aspects. Football has made me a better son, student, brother, etc., and that’s why I love this sport. Football is like having a family away from home; spending rough times with your brothers is the best feeling; and creating friendships that last forever. I love to hit people, and I guess that really stuck with me when I was younger. I have never been the biggest kid, but I love to work and prove people wrong. What was the high point of the 2023 season? The high point of the 2023 season was winning the first ever district and region championship in school history. It feels great to accomplish something like this when it’s never been done before at my school. What was the low point of the 2023 season? My low point of the season was losing to Bell County by 2 points in the semi-state championship game. Of course, it’s great to make it there, but I have high expectations for myself and my guys. It hurt pretty bad to be that close to something great and lose it. What will you miss the most from the 2024 class? Things I will miss the most from the class of 24 are the fun times we had. It felt like we were on top of the world this whole season. I love those seniors I got to play with; they taught me a lot of things. They showed me how to be a winner and to drive for greatness when it gets hard. For that, I will always be thankful for those guys. What are your goals for the season? My goals for this season are to be in the top 5 in the state for tackles, win the district again, prove people wrong who think it was a one-year thing, and get offers. What goals will you set for your team? The goals for my team this season are to win the district and dominate everyone we play. Who has been the best player you have ever faced in a game, along with the team he played for? We played against a lot of good competition this year, but personally, I give a lot of credit to Jarren Johnson from Union County; he was a straight-dawg man. He played QB against us, and he could do it all. He was very hard to bring down from the LB position, and we had to stop him to win. He has my full respect, and he will be dawg this year. What have been your biggest moments as an athlete? My biggest moments as an athlete were probably my sophomore year at Green County. At the time, I was not starting, and one of our linebackers got hurt right before halftime, so I took his spot and basically went off. I had 16 tackles that game and stopped the 4th down to win the game. That was really when things clicked for me—that I could be great. What has been your most embarrassing moment as an athlete? My most embarrassing moment as a football player is probably getting a ball caught over my head. This is a tough question that I have been asking coaches and players, all but to have given an answer; three simply said no comment. So, do you feel that private schools have an unfair advantage over public schools? I believe that private schools do have an advantage, and I think they should play other private schools. Linebacker or running back—which one do you feel you are the best at? I am better at LB. Why should a college coach recruit you? A college coach should be interested in me because I am a very hardworking kid. I love to get better; I have a 3.8 gpa. I am not the biggest guy on the field, but I am a very hard-nosed kid who likes to hit. I have a good mentality off and on the field. Last year I had 146 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, and averaged 10.5 tackles per game. Have you ever been to a minor league baseball game? Yes, I have been to a minor league baseball game. Who is your role model? My role model is probably my father or my coach. He pushes me to be great, and he cuts me no slack ever, but I think it’s a good thing for me. Where is your favorite place to eat? My favorite place to eat is Cook Out.

What is the toughest part of being a student-athlete? Winning the mental battles first and getting out of your head Who has been the best player you have ever faced in a game, along with the team he played for? Deion Winstead, Owensboro High School What are you most looking forward to this season? Being so versatile, I can play anywhere on the line, so I'm looking forward to seeing what difference I can make. I also cannot wait to see what the team in general can achieve. What goals are you setting for yourself this season? More tackles and more sacks What must you guys do as a team to improve on the 6-6 record from last season? Focusing on just the road games you have played, which stadium has had the best overall atmosphere, along with the reasons it was so good? I’ll miss winning the packed-out playoff games at War Memorial during November and being a part of the best program in the country. What was the biggest lesson you were able to learn from playing high school sports that you can use later in life? It is important to look past how you are viewed by outsiders, both good and bad. What was your most memorable moment as a high school football player? Taking a knee in victory formation in the state championship this past season. What game, out of all of the games, will you remember the most, along with the reason why? Beating LCA at home during the 3rd round of the playoffs this year. They had a studded team and were picked to win by just about everyone, so there was an extreme amount of pressure and excitement leading up to and throughout that night. It was a statement when the fireworks sounded off and the clock hit zero. In all of the defenses you faced during your high school career, which one was the best, along with the reasons they were so good? 2021 Beechwood. We played them my sophomore year away for the semifinal game in 9-degree temps, and they didn’t budge. I believe they had a large number of seniors; they were very physical, and they shut us down offensively. I think they went 15-0 that year. What do you believe is your strongest attribute as a quarterback? I’m a competitor and hate losing more than I like winning. I had envisioned winning a state championship at Mayfield since 3rd grade, so I always worked toward that goal and always tried to push my teammates to better themselves daily and keep that mindset as well. What do you improve on the most before taking the field as a college quarterback? I want to increase my footwork abilities and keep the mindset of always getting better. What are you doing before reporting to college to help you improve your game? I’m working to improve my footwork and strength and taking injury prevention measures as well. If possible, will you try and take in any Mayfield high school games this season? If possible, I’d love to make it to the Paducah Tilghman game and the Thanksgiving week semi-finals game as well. Would you name some of the schools that recruited you? Murray State, Georgetown, Lindsey Wilson, Greenville, Kentucky Wesleyan, and Centre were my offers. What made you choose Centre College? They showed me attention early on, and I was very impressed with the effort they put forth to get my commitment as well as a good connection with the coaching staff. What was the best and worst part of the recruiting process? It was cool to be recruited for my talents and hear coaches praise my abilities; however, it can be distracting and very confusing to try to see through the deception and wordplay that teams and coaches will use so that they can recruit the best team possible. Who is your favorite athlete? Either Tim Tebow or Baker Mayfield. Baker was the peak of my childhood college football interest, but I’ve always loved watching Tebow highlights and the way he impacted the game and his team. Louisville or Kentucky, when it comes to rooting for? Kentucky Who is your role model? My father’s always set a great example for me in being meek without sacrificing being a man and a leader. He is a standard for me in having Christian faith as the head of the family.
