Ohio State 34 Notre Dame 23 (2024-25 CFP Championship)

Featured Replies

Final from Atlanta. The first half lead was just too much to overcome for the Irish. Both teams finish 14-2 and Ryan Day gets his first National Championship.

  • Congrats OSU! The system worked.  I think it can improve, but it worked. Best season of college football since I don't know when.

  • Best team won.

  • Yep.   I’m not crazy about either one of them.  But one of them had to win, and OSU was better. Both have intolerably obnoxious fan bases, so it didn’t matter to me.   At least it was fairly entertain

Ohio State won the first college football playoff title with 4 teams 10 years ago and now they win the first college football playoff title with a 12 team bracket. Happy for longtime Buckeye fans from years ago on here in @John Anthonyand @GrantNKY

Congrats OSU!

I agree with this. I hate that OSU won, but they won it on the field and that’s what matters.

Congrats to all the OSU fans on here. I’m not an OSU fan but they definitely was the most talented team in the country and they finally started to play like it during these playoffs.

Great season Notre Dame! As a Notre Dame fan, I love having coach Freeman as a coach. He will get Notre Dame a title soon enough!

Best team won.

Same here. OSU so much more talented. I can't think of any position or position group that ND was more talented - maybe TE?

This was their 9th National Title, but it is surprisingly only their 3rd in last 50 years. I did not realize that until Coach Ryan Day said it while he was being interviewed by Scott Van Pelt.

That's kinda crazy.

A lot of titles from a completely different generation and they are that obnoxious? Reminds me of another local fan base...

I think this does raise some interesting questions. What people detested about the "old" system is what also made it so great. This year's Michigan loss would have sunk the Buckeyes in a normal year. This year, it did not. We can pretend this rivalry—or any other high-profile rivalry that could have similar implications—still matters as much as it ever has, but it is not the case. The stakes are less. I am not saying that is a good or a bad thing, but it is undeniable.

What it shows to me is you could probably argue there were several years where the best four teams were not in the CFP because a single loss kept a really good team out.

Ohio State was clearly the best team of the playoff and it was shown from the beginning of it until last night. It was also clear that OSU was more talented across the board than Notre Dame was. The way the first half finished and Ohio State scoring on their drive after halftime was too much for Notre Dame to overcome. I also believe that Notre Dame was the next best team based on what all the other teams showed. The championship game had the right two teams playing.
