I'll say the 1915 Highlands squad. It was the program's first year playing football. That game against the Highlands alumni must have been something to behold! Unfortunately, Highlands lost to the HHS alumni that day, by a score of 6-0. Oh, and I do believe that in one of those 1915 games, HHS' coach either tried to play or actually played in the game as a "ringer." Now that's something you don't see every day! Coach Mueller... TAKE NOTE!!!!!

I would have to say my favorite team from my alma mater of Raceland, would have to be the 2006 Raceland football team. This team had it all, an explosive offense, a stingy defense, and a group of great kids who loved to play the game. This was truly one of the best, if not the best, football teams Raceland has ever had. There offense, which was one of the top in class A, was led by an all state quarterback in Scott Grizzle, and other greats such as Benji Mullins, Brad Rogers, and Bret Denton.

As for there defense, or as us rams called it, "the orange crush", they were stingy group of young men. In my years of watching Raceland football, this defensive sqaud really got after the opposing offense. The defensive play in that district championship against Lexington Christian, was unbelievable!!! I believe they forced 7 or 8 turnovers in that game, laid some monster hits all night, and even had a defensive linemen score!! They were led by some fantastic young men such as Clint Thompson, Jt Forrest, and Joe Stephens.

This was truly a football "team", they had some fantastic football players, but even better young men. This team is by far my favorite football team ive had the pleasure of watching !!!

I was on that squad, my freshman year, we were the first team that beat NCC in the playoffs, and the only team to win a playoff game in the playoffs. Tyler miller broke his ankle and missed half the season, and Andrew Walker tore his ACL early in the season.

Manual 2001. Definitely the best comradary of any team I ever played with, plus we went 9-2 and beat Male in Coach Nichols' first year as head coach. We were the underdog in SO many games only to end up dominating. The two worst memories also came from this season... giving the game to X after having a decent lead with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and barely losing to PRP in the first round of the playoffs.

In order for Lawrence Co:

1991-92: This team had a lot of balance and the best Oline ever at LC (Stuart Cook Morehead, Chris Hamilton Marshall, James Moore Morehead, Shawn Hill baseball and Donnie Bishop). I'd say this team was also the most physical overall to play there. They averaged close to 260 across the line in 2A. Phelps was a very solid QB that went on to play college ball in WV. A great 1-2 punch in the backfield with Eric Cantrell (maybe the hardest runner ever at LC) and Webb Roberts (one of the top 2 dual threat RB's ever at LC). Led by a power run game and a great playaction game which featured LC's best 1-2 punch catching the ball with Roberts and Lee Abshire.

This team struggled early in the year do too injuries but found their mojo about 1/3 of the way into the season. The team was blue collar and sold out for each other. They went on the road in the playoffs the first round winning at Sheldon Clark in the snow. The 2nd round they were 40 point underdogs to a Russell team that pounded them earlier in the year. LC won in double overtime without their starting QB in the win that put the program on the map. The coming Monday an assistant coach died and the media was everywhere in Louisa trying to figure out who this team was and how they would handle all the adversity with the 1st ever Regional Championship game in Louisa. LC beat Mason Co by stopping them on the 3 yd line as time expired. Do to a crazy alingment LC had to travel to Mayfield for the final 4 game. The papers once again had LC as a 40 point underdog. LC left with a police escort and fans lined up on both sides of the road for miles on Thanksgiving day. They stayed the night in E-town breaking an 8 hour bus ride in half. After a stop at Muhlenburg North the Dogs rolled into Graves Co and played the heck out of the Cardinals. Mayfield was led by EKU's leading rusher William Murrell and the big FB/LBer Chris Barnes. Murrell ran a 70 yd punt back late to almost put the nail in the coffin for the Cards but LC rallied to score late, get an onside kick and get picked off in their endzone after they had moved down to the 30. Mayfield won 21-18 and then lost to Danville in the championship by 3. That LC team laid the foundation for one of the top 15 or so programs in the state in the 90's.

Next 4:

LC 1997: Jason Michael (national championship QB at Western), Gerad Parker(UK), Spencer Harriss(Shortstop,4 year starter-captain at Virginia Tech), Nick Meadows, Fred Dean and Darryell Hensley. Pulled off the biggest upset in school history by beating Breathitt only to lose to the biggest Cinderella team in state history Bourban Co in the final 4.

LC 1993: Best defense in school history holding teams under a TD. Swept the District with ease and lost in the Regional Championship after leading at halftime to Prestonsburg+The TD Twins (Garza+Hyden). Also the team that pulled off the infamous hook+latterall in the Regional Semifinals. With under 20 seconds left in the game down by 4 LC never gave up, threw Junior Marshall out of bounds, blocked the punt + hit a 55 yd hook and latterall in what might have been the best series of events to end a game in KY high school football history.

1999: Alan Short/Gerad Parker/Travis Hughs/Mike West/Dontae Wright/Todd Issac put together the best offense in the history of the school and one of the tops in the state. Lost to Guduili/Hamblin etc in a very entertaining game early at Highlands in the final 4. I think there were 28 points scored between the 2 teams only 5 minutes into the game!

1990: That group of SR's were the first group to give the program real hope. They went 11-0 but were on probabtion for dropping out of District to build the program. Howard Adams still might have had the best breakaway speed ever in the program. Josh Sexton carried on the tradition of hard hitting LBers that was passed down through his family. Sould leader Keith Best helped anchor that line.

2001: Best 1-2 punch at LC and maybe Eastern KY with Dontae Wright (Miami of Ohio) and Mike West (Marshall).

Has to be CovCath 2006:

1) My classmates

2) Won State

3) Beat Highlands twice

4) Saw my best friend absolutely destroy a Highlands player (I think Luke Stein) on a punt return

It was a very nice hit no doubt, but Luke bounced right back up off the ground and didn't miss a beat, so if that's your definition of "absolutely destroy", I assume your one of the boys in the cheering section.:D:D:D
