Coaches get fired for not winning enough all the time.   Just look down I-71.   If they wanted to fire her for that, they would have.   It's NKU, not UConn.  A buyout of that contract isn't breaking the bank.

There is no comparison between UConn and NKU's athletic budget. They sell out men's and women's games. A quarter of a million (possibly) at NKU would be a good hit. The TV money in the Big East is just a little more (lol) than the Horizon League.

Call it like it is.  She didn’t win enough.  Don’t try to find any other excuse.  Players always want to find an excuse, it can’t be them or their effort.  That is why the portal is so full of escapees looking for a coach they like better, more playing time, more NIL and all of these reasons make total sense.  Most college programs choose to delicately handle these types of player complaints without trying to gut the Coach while departing.

Does this mean you think the allegations by the players are not true?

I don’t know too many top coaches that this can’t be said by the buttercups.  Senior leadership usually straightens them out and toughens them up to the demands of a college athlete.  I think that the school attempting to shield themselves by leaking any so called allegations to the press (if they indeed planted the leaks) is highly unprofessional, unethical and opens themselves to all kinds of liability.  Knowing the Coach’s professionialism she probably agreed to a non-disparaging agreement in hopes that the school would cease the gutting.

Or does it mean that it's ok for coaches to be abusive towards players in the interest of "toughening them up"?

Honestly, if you are NKU you want to be hunting for a new coach every 3 or 4 seasons (but not for this reason.). That generally means you are winning, making the dance and another school is poaching your coach.   Who ever they hire, I hope they are gone in 4 years.

Way Way Way too much of this all over - especially in NKY high school and youth circles. It's ridiculous. The constant non-stop auto-defense of coaches accused of this stuff has gotten so old. For many people - including shockingly on this forum - there must be no coaches that ever cross the line.

What's gotten old is people defending this behavior by saying athletes are too "soft", not tough enough, and/or spoiled, as well as the belief that this is what it takes to be a "champion".

Weren't there similar complaints about Brannen when he was coaching at NKU?

No. That was when he went to UC.

Some, but granted not all, can be this simple.
W = “coaching hard”

 L = “abuse”

 🤔

Here's the thing. The tough guy, abusive stuff might fly and even produce results in the short term. Long term successful programs in this day and age, don't have coaches that are regularly crossing the line, especially with the transfer rules. Coaches no longer can hold players captive, and as a result, they won't put up with abusive behavior. It only worked back in the day because athletes had few options. Think about it, how long would you be willing to put up with an abusive boss? Adults shouldn't and won't put up with it, and neither should athletes.

I think the older generation doesn't like the new way of thinking because it's a way of their kids saying that if this is what you put up with, you're an idiot.

Or, perhaps it is many of our younger generation growing up in undisciplined environments that have not been accustomed to respecting their elders, teachers, officials, coaches, or parents and learning to adapt and thrive for the betterment of the whole.
