Kind of like how every previous generation feels about the new generation. Bad behavior has always existed and is not unique to any one generation, not to mention there are way more good kids than bad kids. To lump a whole generation under the bad umbrella is at best hyperbole. Besides, if all these kids are truly disrespectful etc, then the previous generation has nothing to complain about since they were the ones that raised them to be that way.

You missed the word “many” and in no way did I mean to infer whole generation.  As to did “many” in my generation fail to teach valuable life lessons….you are 100% correct.

In my multiple decades of coaching I’ve encountered very few kids like you are describing. Sure there have been a few. Sure some things have changed in society, but I think you’re overestimating when you say “many”.

When it comes to a lack of respect (a critical life lesson) even “1” could be considered “too many”.  I think the mass exodus of experienced teachers in the classroom, referees/umpires in school sports, and school activity volunteers would endorse that for whatever reason (social media, peer examples, relative coolness, lack of parental influence, or no repercussions) respect for elders and authority figures is much more prevalent today than ever before.  Still love the younger generation, but do think that failure is not always someone else’s fault and maybe I did something wrong to justify criticism.  Abuse…nah.  Toughen up, buttercup.

Explanation:  Buttercup was not directed at anyone, just the situation.

I don’t know anything about the former coach. But I do know they should have hired Jeff Hans by now. If he’s not on their short list, time to reevaluate who’s doing the hiring.

This is an absolute home run for NKU. I couldn’t be happier with this hire. Coach Hans is a great basketball coach and leader. But he might be an even better person! Congratulations to all involved!

Wow.  Dynamite hire, IMO.  As noted above, he's been wildly successful at TMU.  And I think he was on Coach Winstel's staff at some point in the past.
