Happy Birthday to the best player in Kentucky HSFB History!

Recommended Posts

Happy birthday to former Trinity wide receiver James Quick! The undisputed GOAT (as the kids say) turns 29 today.

James became the first freshman to ever start in a varsity game for the Rocks when he took the field against Louisville Eastern in 2009. He scored a touchdown in the state finals that year against St. Xavier and became the first player in KY history to score a TD in 4 straight title games. James finished as the state's all-time leader in receptions with 280 and amassed 4,437 yards receiving and 57 touchdowns. All are school records. He had 82 catches for 1,434 yards and 21 touchdowns for the 15-0 2011 National Championship team, which is regarded as one of the best high school football teams of all time by MaxPreps, Rivals and ESPN. He completed his time at Trinity with 3 football championships (2010-2012), the 2012 basketball championship as a guard, and 3 straight individual titles in the 200m dash, setting the state record at 20.94 seconds in 2011. That time was the track record at UofL for quite some time as well and James managed it when he was just a junior. As a senior, James accepted an invite to the 2012 US Army All-American game in San Antonio (alongside head coach Bob Beatty and OC Andrew Coverdale) where he caught the game winning touchdown and was named MVP of the game. He committed to Louisville over Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama and several others during that game on NBC. He was named 2012 Gatorade Player of the Year for Kentucky and also was named the Shamrock's third Mr. Football award winner after Jeff and Brian Brohm. He is one of three athletes to have his number retired at Trinity.

The 5-star receiver went on to Louisville and was a primary target for Lamar Jackson during his Heisman campaign in 2016. He now coaches wide receivers at Kentucky Country Day school in Louisville. 🎂☘️

James was great football player but I thought he could be even better in track and potentially be a olympian but I think he liked football better.

Definitely liked football better but he was a slow starter in track. Might be why he couldn't beat Ronnie Baker in the 100. However, I would never have put anything past him. If he wanted it, he took it back then!
