Will there be high school football this fall?

It appears in-person school instruction has been pushed back until 9-28 so at this point it is not looking good...

Technically, only a recommendation.  It’s not a mandate. But yes, this isn’t a good sign for fall sports.

Even with a vaccine people will still get the corona. Eventually we have to decide to stop living in fear and move on.

I can't see any school rejecting the recommendation.  Doing so I would think opens them up to some major liability if something were to happen to staff and/or students.

I've been a big believer that if we see football it will happen in the spring.  That will cause a massive disruption to other sports, but I just think all sports are getting pushed to that window and the KHSAA will let the chips fall where they will to salvage something.

Russell has A lot of kids who play Baseball who also play football as well as some who run track. If Spring Football did happen it would affect all small schools big time.

I mentioned this before, but some states are going to abbreviated seasons (roughly 6 weeks of competition) for Fall, Winter and Spring, which would allow players to play multiple sports.  Not perfect, but better than nothing.

I just think that if we really think we’re keeping kids from spreading this by not playing sports we are living in a dream world since all these kids hang out and go to parties where they have a lot closer contact then playing sports but it seems to me that they won’t be playing sports.

It would definitely cause a ton of problems for small schools (as a Danville fan I know this all too well).  Based on where the state guidelines for schools are taking us, I just don't know what other options might exist outside of a quickie sports season in the fall that would basically be playoffs and nothing.

That's not under the liability of schools.  Students do a lot of things at home they can't do at school.

Fall sports should stay in the fall. Whether that means postponing to a first week of October start & playing a 6 week regular season and full playoffs as another alternative then so be it. Too many other issues with moving to spring. Not fair for student athletes to have to choose between sports.

100 per cent agree with this, as a High School coach that coaches a spring sport, we have already lost one season, sure would hate for the athletes to have to choose a sport, it just would not work at the smaller schools. Unfortunately this is starting to sound like what happened in the spring, we was canceled for two weeks, then a month, until it was finally just canceled. I hope that the schools at least get a chance to try and play this year.

Here is something that makes too much sense. Move football to spring and baseball to fall this year. You have baseball players coming off of summer travel teams that could roll right into a baseball season.

We have to do what other countries have done to be able to play any sports.  If we don't do that we can just copy and paste this entire thread.

I can see some schools rejecting the recommendation and going forward. I said this earlier. Kentucky is one of the safest states in the nation. Numbers are dropping on almost a daily basis. Most people are finally on board with mask wearing. I took the risk and went to Kroger. Every person I saw had a mask on. I think some schools are going to move forward with their plans. Hammer down on compliance with the rules. Kids want to go to school and get some normalcy back. If the numbers keep dropping like they are, then two weeks from now the KHSAA decision will be easy - play on.

I could roll right into a baseball season and I haven't played in 25 years.

I think that's a great idea.  I for one would be in favor of an October 2nd first game date if it means we get to play and keep football in the fall.  Play a 7 game schedule and then start playoffs on November 20th, but basically take out the 1st round by making it only district champs and runner-ups that make the playoffs.  I know this would eliminate some teams from the playoffs and some are going to say that isn't fair, but very rarely does a 3 or 4 seed advance beyond week 2 of the playoffs anyway.  If you take out the current 1st round, you could still wrap up the playoffs by December 13th, just a week later than normal.

I know this and that’s what it all comes down to fear of being caught up in a lawsuit because there’s nothing that happens on a football field that’s any more likely to spread this virus then what these kids are doing in their own time.
