Are the KHSAA football playoffs...

Can easily happen if your only loss is in district, which is what will happen if you only take the top 2 teams. Teams will schedule soft for out of district.

The soft scheduling is what would put a 9-1 team at risk of missing on a tiebreaker. If you are 9-1 and fell to third in a tiebreaker, it likely means almost every team you played was awful.

Don’t you think this may be a bit of a stretch? How many teams do you REALLY believe consider the possibility of a 3 way tie when scheduling? Has a 3 or 4 seed ever won a championship?

Butler should have taken care of business in the regular season IMO. If the KHSAA leaves it the way it is I’m not terribly opposed to it as it is similar to all the other sports. I would prefer top 2 which would help make a more competitive 1st round.

Would it?? Taking just the top two would make this past weekends game the first round (except for the few 3 and 4 seeds that got through by beating not so good 1 and two seeds). Only 12 out of 48 games were decided by 16 points (two touchdowns+two point conversions) or less. And there’s going to be a quite a few blowouts this week too. Trying to eliminate blowouts is a problem that can’t be fixed. I’d rather let everyone in, so we give that rare 3 or 4 seed that is really good a chance, to make sure we had the best teams playing at the end. Even taking just district winners isn’t going to make the first round super competitive, as you’ll see by the number of blowouts that happen this week. At least by letting everyone in, we know the best teams will be playing at the end.

And by the way, just for reference, in boys basketball last year, every first round game in the Sweet 16, and 3 of the 4 second round games, were decided by double digits. Yet no one complains, and many say we have the best basketball state tourney in the country.
