Why did he step down then?

Probably many reasons, but parents were certainly a factor.  They were really really young and sadly the parents were not reasonable or supportive.  A sense of entitlement possibly?  He was a great fit for that program and gave them his full effort on the court and outside the lines.  Unfortunate for Beechwood, but he will get another opportunity if he wants to coach again.

That is an interesting take and observation.  The reality is that many upperclassmen didn’t come back this past season while he was still at the helm.  After this season, many more current players were planning on not returning if he was still in charge.  Not sure how that makes it a great fit for the program.  This would’ve been enough girls exiting to put the program in a place that could possibly question if they would field a team next year.  So walking away after the season is what is being advertised, but in reality, I would assume, there wasn’t an option for him to return. There is, without question, a lot of youth on that team but a role of the head of the program is to develop that young talent.  The other item left out was the injuries that plagued the team.  Losing your best player and never having a contributing upperclassman because of injury hurts.  All the more reason to develop and adapt.  That just didn’t seem to happen.  It seems as if the coach was a lot of talk without substance or ability to back it up.  Anyone that followed the team the past few years could see the inability for the coach to adapt to close out games or develop the team to compete in games.  His coaching knowledge of X’s and O’s and developing just didn’t exist or was elementary at best. The players seemed to not develop much or become disinterested under his tutelage.  He had a couple of talented assistants that, for whatever reason, seemed to not have much input or voice that was given a chance. The coach, without a doubt, loved being the head coach and was a rah-rah guy but facts are facts.  His previous head coaching job at Calvary Christian ended just as this one would’ve, not enough players wanting to come out for the a team he was the head coach of. Beechwood was in fear to have the same thing happen.

I agree, not sure why parents would be blamed in this situation or why that information would be spread. If anyone observed this team over the last 3 seasons, especially this most recent season, it would be apparent that player/program development was a serious issue. Parents have nothing to do with that. If anything, it would be understandable for parents to be frustrated and have serious concerns with the way the team was lead. I agree that the program numbers were dwindling so much that even having enough for a varsity team next year would have been questionable.

Yeah, I've heard a few. Not sure how likely some of them are. Don't want to throw the names out here, but it appears there are multiple people interested, which is good news for the school and program.

How appealing is this job to anyone? If I’m not mistaken, they’ve pretty much had a coaching change every couple of years or so since the McCarthy era . With NDA and HC in your district it’s tough to even get a sniff at region; so it’s an almost a guaranteed short postseason, which would seem to me be a difficult job to sell for even a young coach trying to make a name. Just not sure how desirable this job is if you aren’t already apart of the Beechwood community already (parent, teacher, etc.).

I think it is like a lot of coaching gigs in Kentucky now.  If you want to coach some ball and try to enrich the lives of a few children, go for it at a school like Beechwood.  If you are serious about basketball, the Beechwood job is either a stepping stone or a graveyard.  Either way, I don't know how desirable this specific job is at Beechwood.

Beechwood has no winning seasons in the last 10 years. Their best record in that time was last year at 14-14 under the coach that just resigned. Their last winning season was under Dick Maile in 2013-14. Girls leaving the program as they get older has been common under 3 different coaches over the past ten years. This is a program culture change issue that needs to be built from middle school on up. Drill from middle school up - skills, defense and culture.
